Is a good AI future possible? Right now it's hard to feel hopeful: authors' work was stolen to train the models, chatbot-powered scammers are flooding the book market with slop and trying to steal from us, and arts workers are being told to train their own replacements.

I became obsessed with the uncanny valley while writing Broken Mirror. Researchers in the mid 2010s were exploring robotics and digital replicas of human beings. Video games were becoming lifelike and photorealistic. But there was a problem: the uncanny valley. 🌈🚀💫 🦾 🏳️‍🌈📚 💙📚 🪐📚 ⚡️📚
