Thanks! I’m now in the process of writing a patch and getting close to a solution. Almost there!

Update to the previous announcement. The server limitation is apparently set in stone, making it currently impossible for the site to be fully operational. Workarounds are being explored but sadly, I don’t see an easy fix anytime soon.

(2/2) without me being notified, it looks like a wall-clock resource cap silently terminates anything that goes over an hour, leaving the database in an inconsistent state – and users potentially wondering why their queries don’t quite work. Please bear with me while a solution is being pursued.

(1/2) I’m sorry to announce CODECS will be unavailable while server problems continue. We may be in a spot of bother with the (new?) limitations of our hosting plan. Some essential maintenance scripts require a generous amount of time to complete, but ...

Ah yes, having been through the occasional trial and error myself, I can think of a few reasons why that might happen. This issue though is something relating specifically to a type of string matching, which may require a long-running maintenance script to get back into shape again.

2/2 - ... and the site will not be fully functional until it has finished doing so, or so I hope. Apologies for the temporary inconvenience!

1/2 - Small notification. It was found that certain (SMW) query results started to become incomplete. A maintenance script is now running to rebuild the full-text search index. This might take a while as it needs to plough through an estimated 3 million table rows

There's a bit of discussion about this (and only briefly about the strengths of the alternative derivation from 'pinguis') in Katrin Thier's article 'Of Picts and Penguins' in publishup.uni-potsdam.de/opus4-ubp/fr... (2007)

Thanks, that does seem like a possible scenario at least. On the other hand, Ben Guy, in the article you referred to, had apparently noticed the same and attributes it to an error in the digitised version. Oh well, I'll just send an email to NLW.

why does the Vita Elgari start on f. 35, in the middle of the Vita Samsoni? Is it due to a recent binding error, or a 'digital' one? (P.S. Not trying to be churlish here about the monumental work being done at @librarywales.bsky.social)

Niche question for Welsh medievalists. While testing the prototype of a new TOC creator that links our data to IIIF resources, using the daunting Liber Landavensis as an example, I quickly got confused. The mystery of the absent f. 56v was easily solved (it's mislabelled) but ...

I actually came across this one this week while adding a few basic entries, including one about this ‘third’ life, to our catalogue. Looking forward to your talk tomorrow!

Good news. There was a bit of downtime on Friday, but the upgrade previously announced should be ready and there is a brief report to go with that - codecs.vanhamel.nl/Show:CODECS/...

A little announcement to start the year: over the next few days all sites of the Van Hamel Foundation (CODECS included) will go offline for an upgrade and unless anything unforeseen happens, should be back up within a week or so.

No mention of blood-sucking though (AFAICS) but still appropriate given that Finn "buried him with his head downwards (lest he might effect a resurrection)". In light of other versions where Ábhartach is identified as a dwarf, it's reminiscent of Swift's Lilliputians who "bury their dead with their

Pleasantly surprised to see this on a #MediaWiki conference: on #MUDCon, Florian Thiery just presented a great rundown of study cases involving the use of #Wikibase software to record archaeological objects and sites, including Ogham stones, Irish holy wells and even Govan stones

Friends, while we were caught in the whirlwind of the announcement that our Faculty intends to close our programme, we have been quiet here. In part, because we have no words to express our shock and sadness, in part also because we wanted to think about the best way forward. 1/2
