As the first wave of Big Ugly Bill cuts are upon us, it is past time for action at all levels of government. The harms will compound in the months to come. We are not powerless — we have 2 revenue tools available to shore up our safety net thru Harborview and our Public Health clinics.

40% of the lawfully present immigrants who are losing their health coverage today are in King County alone. We must act now, use the revenue tools the state legislature gave the county, and invest in our county healthcare safety net hospital and clinics.

For decades, people have come together in King County to welcome people fleeing persecution. Offering refuge has made us stronger. Today, along with 450 other electeds, I added my name to the #FreedomToWelcome letter calling on the federal government to reopen pathways to welcome refugees.

I am incredibly saddened by the news of KL
Shannon's passing. She led, powered, and grew some of the most important movements in Seattle. KL was a fierce champion for justice who spent her life fighting for a more just Seattle. Our city is better because KL lived, organized, fought, and loved here. KL showed up to demand police accountability, alternatives to incarceration, environmental justice, and immigrant rights. There was no fight that she felt was too hard when injustice was present.
May we honor her by carrying forward the work she carried for so long.

Big news: Harbor Island Studios is staying open! Executive Zahilay just signed a one-year lease with CREATE48 Media Network, keeping this 89,000 sq ft public soundstage—the only one in the region—alive and creating good union jobs for District 8 filmmakers and creatives. 💜
Purple graphic with title “Statement on Future of Harbor Island studios” with the following quote from Councilmember Mosqueda, “District 8 is home to some of our most cherished cultural institutions and a thriving homegrown arts scene, and I’m thrilled that we have been able to keep a driver of our arts economy alive at Harbor Island Studios. In partnership with Executive Zahilay, this agreement with Create48 allows for continued film and commercial production, providing a space for our next generation of creators to bring their visions to life, while spurring business at our local shops and employing community members in good union wage jobs.”

Stability is the foundation of everything. As federal uncertainty puts pressure on communities across the country, I'm encouraged by the commitment from King County, City of Seattle, and regional partners to work together to protect people experiencing homelessness and providers who serve them. 💜
First of two graphics picturing King County Councilmember, District 8 Teresa Mosqueda with the first part of her quote regarding changes coming to King County Regional Homelessness Authority, "The most important thing right now for our region’s homelessness response system is stability—stability of housing and services for people experiencing homelessness, stability for the providers delivering essential services, and stability in the funding that makes this work possible. I appreciate that the County Executive, the Mayor, and our regional partners are working together to chart a path forward that protects people experiencing homelessness, supports our service providers, and shores up against cuts to critical federal resources."Second graphic including the last part of Councilmember Mosqueda's statement on changes coming to King County Regional Homelessness Authority, "At a time when uncertainty at the federal level is creating chaos in communities across the country, our region is stepping up to work together and care for our most vulnerable neighbors. There is still important work ahead, and many details remain to be worked out, but I am optimistic that through partnership and shared commitment we can build a more stable and effective system—that is what our community deserves."
