So, what sort of novel is Finn’s Legacy? This chart maps where Finn’s Legacy sits among historical and fantasy novels I love. Hopefully, this gives you a sense of whether Finn’s Legacy is your kind of story. If so, pre-order the eBook. #BookSky #historicalfantasy #FinnsLegacy
A parchment style chart mapping historical and fantasy novels along two axes: History ↔ Fantasy and Prose ↔ Plot. The upper left shows literary historical works like Hild and The Song of Achilles; the upper right shows literary fantasy such as Tigana and The Lord of the Rings. The lower left features plot driven historical fiction like The Winter King and Warlord, while the lower right includes plot driven fantasy such as A Game of Thrones and Dragonlance Chronicles. Finn’s Legacy by Chris Hind appears at the center-left to reflect its legendary history roots and its balance of prose and plot.

📖 Now that I’ve finished writing all three novels in the Hengest Cycle, it’s time to publish Book One: FINN’S LEGACY. The road to launch will consume most of my time for the next few months. This includes final line edits, book layout, cover design, and marketing.

Over the coming weeks, I’ll tease the story and announce the launch date.

📖 In this snippet from my editing work-in-progress, Eigyr sets out to mock the gods by means of a trivial display of her powers. #BookSky #historicalfantasy #amediting #BeowulfConcordance
The novel excerpt overlaid on a puddle of burgundy wine:

Eigyr took a breath. “I need to show you something.”

Geraint set down his cup. “I’m game. What is it?”

She closed her eyes, letting the Sight wash over her. The futures branched before her, clear as spring water, turning and tumbling past hidden boulders. She opened her eyes and met his gaze. “You’re about to spill your wine.”

“What? You think—” Geraint gestured towards his goblet but misjudged its location. His hand knocked it wobbling, and then his frantic grab spun it off the table. It tumbled to the floor with a dull clang, wine splashing across the stone. “Lleu’s hand! How did you—”

📖 In this snippet from my editing work-in-progress, Eigyr and her mother Gwenwyn face a new challenge together. #BookSky #historicalfantasy #amediting #BeowulfConcordance
The novel excerpt overlaid on a watercolor image of Tintagel’s steep sea cliffs amid mist and crashing waves:

A sudden popping sensation shocked Eigyr. A gush of warmth soaked the edge of the bed where she sat, streaming down her calves and pattering against the rushes. The spindle dropped, trailing thread and wool.

“I’ve lost it!” She clutched her huge belly, lip quivering.

Laying her weaving tablet aside, Gwenwyn rose from the hearthside and came to her daughter. “No, dear, that’s the baby announcing itself.”

Eigyr took strength from her mother’s confidence. It’s begun. There’s no turning back.

📖 In this snippet from my editing work-in-progress, Eigyr consults with her father, Amlawdd. 📷Dawn Sky: Photo by Fernando Strabuli on Unsplash #BookSky #historicalfantasy #amediting #BeowulfConcordance
The novel excerpt overlaid on a photo of a predawn sky, pale violet with a hem of gold:

The predawn sky was pale violet with a hem of gold, the stones of the Giant’s Dance flat and shadowless shades of gray. Amlawdd stood with Eigyr in the lee of one of the massive sarsen stones, hidden from Geraint’s party on the far side of the circle. She wore undyed linen, a creamy white embroidered with green knotwork, her hair braided with ivy. Amlawdd picked at a patch of orange lichen on the pitted upright stone, sniffing loudly.

“What worries you, Father?” Left to his own pace, he’d take the whole day to express what ailed him.

He glanced at Eigyr, then away. He scuffed a patch of ground. Finally, he gently laid his hands on her shoulders, peering into her eyes. “I know you’re not who you claim.”

📖 In this snippet from my editing work-in-progress, Eigyr seeks Geraint, who has suddenly gone missing. #BookSky #historicalfantasy #amediting #BeowulfConcordance
The novel excerpt overlaid on a photo of a grassy barrow mound beneath a bright sky.

Eigyr circled the largest mound. Geraint’s magnificent warhorse, Goliath, grazed near a two-person military tent. Smoke rose from a campfire. She dismounted, heart hammering. The earth seemed to shiver as wind’s fingers trailed across the downs and tousled the barrow’s grassy crown.

Geraint turned a stick over the flames until Goliath’s snort of greeting caused him to look up. The stick stilled, smoldering. Eigyr’s frantic search collapsed into this moment: him, here, looking at her with an expression she couldn’t read.

“Lady Eigyr.” He rose, brushing ash from his hands. “I didn’t expect—”

“For me to find you?” Her voice came out sharper than intended.

📖 In this snippet from my editing work-in-progress, Geraint meets with Eigyr at the villa’s Nymphaeum. #BookSky #historicalfantasy #amediting #BeowulfConcordance
The novel excerpt written over a black and white engraving, a depiction of a tranquil woodland scene where dense foliage surrounds a calm pond.

“My mother once followed the teachings of Pelagius.” Geraint stooped, staring closely into the still water. “A heresy, according to Rome. She is orthodox now in words and deeds, but I suspect she still believes that each of us is free to choose our own path to righteousness.”
“That’s your mother’s secret, not yours.”
“I am a Pelagian still. I believe in free will.” His eyes met hers, but through the medium of their reflections. “That we choose our fate, not the other way around.”
“I believe that as well.” She knew it to be true: she’d Seen it; she’d done it. “Why tell me this?”
“Because… I want you to know me.”
This was not what Eigyr had planned. Not at all.
