📖 In this snippet from my editing work-in-progress, Geraint meets with Eigyr at the villa’s Nymphaeum. #BookSky #historicalfantasy #amediting #BeowulfConcordance

The novel excerpt written over a black and white engraving, a depiction of a tranquil woodland scene where dense foliage surrounds a calm pond.

“My mother once followed the teachings of Pelagius.” Geraint stooped, staring closely into the still water. “A heresy, according to Rome. She is orthodox now in words and deeds, but I suspect she still believes that each of us is free to choose our own path to righteousness.”
“That’s your mother’s secret, not yours.”
“I am a Pelagian still. I believe in free will.” His eyes met hers, but through the medium of their reflections. “That we choose our fate, not the other way around.”
“I believe that as well.” She knew it to be true: she’d Seen it; she’d done it. “Why tell me this?”
“Because… I want you to know me.”
This was not what Eigyr had planned. Not at all.
