Here with my little 3d printed 2d printer to speak in defense of 3d printing. AB 2047 would infringe on our right to privacy and free speech. It's theoretically about gun control, but ghost guns are already illegal and this bill wouldn't make us any safer.

Hi all, could you help us nerds out? This petition protects 3d printing in CA by opposing a bill that's a cumbersome 1st and 5th amendment violating moneysink.

Very concerned about our society. 56% of the population indifferent to dinosaurs??? Worrisome! And Allosaurus and Edmontosaurus fans are well less than 6% of the country??? Shocking! (Admittedly Edmontosaurus is the viola of dinosaurs, but you think sleek, chompy Allosaurus would get more love!)

Finally finished this paint by numbers. It was fun, but I had to fight with the old rubbery paint, and give some colors a second coat.
A paint by numbers canvas showing a vintage motorcycle parked in front of a British inn. The colors are pale like an old print.

Shower thought time. 🧵 The phrase "You shouldn't have." It can mean so many freaking things. 1. That action was harmful, don't do it again. 2. That action gave you very little gain for your exertion. 3. That thing you did was a conventionally thoughtful gesture.

Whoo, I just tried that trick on dented wood where you dampen it, put a damp cotton rag on it, then iron it. The heated water in the wood expands and gets the dent out. It freaking worked. Witchcraft! (I only recommended if you don't care about the wood's finish.)

Gah. With these horrible tariffs, I might actually test the crafters principle of S.A.B.L.E (stash acquisition beyond life expectancy) Was hoping to keep that very theoretical. On a related note, just left some voicemails for my Senators. Gah.

For anyone wondering, some possible dog names have survived from cuneiform sources. On tiny dog figurines found buried under a palace in Nineveh, Iraq are inscriptions that seem to be names. dan rigiššu “loud is his bark” munaššiku gārîšu “biter of his foe” mušēṣi lemnūti “expeller of evil”
Photo of 5 dog figurines in profile facing to the left in a staggered line. The closest one is reddish, the three in the middle are beige, and the furthest is dark grey. Each one has a cuneiform inscription on their side.

Well, saw this critter this morning. He sat on the hill behind my house, outraging my dogs, for a good 15 minutes while I polished off breakfast and explained to the dogs why they couldn't go out and fight our visitor. I thought he was sick, but he then got up and trotted smoothly away.

Saw this adorable, incandescently furious little cutie today.

I've been into paint by numbers for a while, though I'm slow at it. It's a good way to move my hands while turning my brain off. This one is from Winnie's Picks. Several of the paints were gummy or pale and needed to be doctored up with flow aid and a few drops from my Golden brand paint stash.
Close up of a partially painted paint by number kit. Two rows of paint pots and a piece of paper showing the final image, which is a vintage motorcycle in front of a rural British inn, are sitting on the partially painted canvas.

Turns out that $40 can get you 360 Lego frogs and a handful of butterflies. Behold!
A small army of 360 plastic Lego frogs and 15 Lego butterflies sitting in a circle. The circle measures approximately 8 inches across. The butterflies are yellow, orange and purple. The frogs are olive green, regular green, gold, white, pale pink and dark pink. Each color of frog or butterfly are placed together so that the circle resembles a patchwork quilt.

About time I posted something happy/funny. My compliments to Zeb Ernest. The scary thing is that these little muppets look genuinely happy and well adjusted. 🤣

Just had a sample of the Eaton Fire ash that is in my driveway run on the department XRF. Is there titanium (new house paint)? Yup. Lead (old house paint)? You betcha. Heavy metals? Check. Treat that ash like it's toxic folks (because it is)
A computer screen with a display showing output from an xray diffraction spectrometer. Close up view showing fraction of metals. Fun stuff.

The tldr is use an N95, gloves, long sleeves, good boots and a tetanus shot or booster. The ashes and wreckage from this tragedy (or any other urban fire) is nothing to fool with. Wishing everyone comfort and safety.

A good example of why we shouldn't always get what we want. I had the good fortune of meeting Terry Pratchett in 2005 for a very pleasant split second. I always dreamed of getting the dual signature and damn, am I glad I didn't.

Took these photos when walking the Lafayette resevoir on January 1st. Bald eagles are super rare around here. I don't think it's a good omen, but I'll take it anyway.
Image of two bald eagles perched in a tall pine tree. The sky is grey behind them.A photograph of a resevoir of water with grass close to the viewer and hills and trees in the distance. There are four white pelicans sitting in the water and paddling towards the viewer, each leaving a V shaped wake.
