I posted this to our more than 750,000 followers across Meta's platforms today. We can't abandon our community there, but we are so glad to add Bluesky and other platforms as they come along. Thank you for being here, wherever we may be. 🫶😻

The text reads: Friends, this is a long read, so strap in. So much has happened the last few days that people are finding their heads spinning trying to keep up, myself included. After some thought, I have a couple of things that I want to say about Meta's announcement to roll back the content policies that have helped keep their platforms safer, more inviting spaces in the past few years. Indeed, I've seen evidence just this morning that the changes have already taken place.

First of all, I have never allowed hatred and toxicity to proliferate in my comment sections, and I never will. Just because Markie Z. has decided to allow hate speech on his platforms does not mean that it will be tolerated even one iota within the digital spaces that I have control over. We all know that spammers, bots, and trolls have always been largely left for page owners and content creators to deal with anyway — so I will just put in a little overtime in that regard. 🤷‍♀️

There is no doubt that you've seen everyone talking about leaving, and admittedly, it sounds a bit tempting doesn't it? However, while I have set up accounts for Club Meatbird on most of the alternative platforms that have been springing up — I will not be leaving Meta, and I have several reasons for making that decision.

Of course, this is my job and how we have gotten by for the past few years, but more than that, the community that we have built here is invaluable to me.
