Hate to hear about the passing of Craig Symonds. A wonderful scholar and great public speaker, but also a genuinely good guy who was kind and supportive whenever we crossed paths.

So, this Elsinore movie is just a remake of Strange Brew, right?

Look what came in the mail! Honored to be included among so many amazing scholars and thanks to @civilwarjon.bsky.social for asking me to write a fun piece about my weird Lincoln fact-checking adventures.

The book Why Lincoln? Preserving an American Legacy, edited by Jonathan W. White and including contributions from several scholars.

Cool idea. Printing presses are a mechanic in Europa Unversalis 4 & 5. Can't remember if they're mentioned in the previous ones.

I love this movie so damn much and I knew my daughter shared my sense of humor when she loved it too. (anyway Rabin is, as usual, dead on here)

Extremely grateful to @civilwarjon.bsky.social for including me in this volume alongside scholars whose stars are much brighter than mine. I had a blast writing my piece on the crazy Lincoln fact-checking I've had to do over my career.

Since moving to Nova Scotia, I've joined the board of the Dartmouth Heritage Museum, which is headquartered in Creighton's house, and I've been learning a lot about her. Really fascinating and complicated person. I might write something about her one day.

How did I never put 2+2 together that Raymond Massey was from the Toronto Massey family? Pretty sure he's referenced on SCTV a few times, which should have been my other clue. Anyway, he's probably my third favorite Lincoln, in the 3rd-best Lincoln movie. But still pretty good!

Dolly Parton at the first show she ever played in Canada. It was on Feb. 20, 1972 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, where she was a special guest for Porter Wagoner's Traveling Road Show. While not the headliner, many said she stole the show. 📸 Vancouver Sun

I know this is my answer for all these kinds of things, but most museums can't prove that the vast majority of things in their collections are what they say they are or even how they got them.

Having moved back to Canada, I haven't been to a Top Golf in some time. But if this is what it's become, then we have a truly classic example of implementing a deranged idea of "efficiency" without any realization of what people like about your product.

I remember watching this when it aired live in September, 1976, the Muppet Show's first season. I didn't know who Rita Moreno was, only that she was amazing. She won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program. Happy Sunday Funday! 🥵

Yes, Pinsker's book is excellent and this is a thoughtful interview. There's still more to learn about Lincoln and he still informs our current political world.
