Make Big Polluters Pay @mbbp-aus.bsky.social · 03/08/2026
Heatwaves, drought and fires are making farming “virtually impossible” in parts of the world, and driving up food prices. While coal, oil and gas giants are making billions, communities are suffering the economic impact. This isn't fair. Big polluters should pay for climate damage—not us.

Today’s newsletter covers the six key takeaways from this year’s talks and where it leaves the world in its efforts to cut emissions and adapt to a hotter planet.

Badly worded poll published by the SMH, which implies that it’s more costly overall/less affordable to reach net zero. Verging on a push poll. Despite this, a majority of Australians still support net zero.
Headline in the Sydney Morning Herald “Third of voters want net zero gone as Coalition meets to decide position” by James MassolaPoll results which show between 54% of Australians supporting a net zero target. 31% say it should be abandoned. The third option in the poll is worded “Australia should abandon the target, but still take action on emissions where it is affordable”.
