@juergen_hubert Got it. I'm just weirdly sensitive on some typographical matters like font choice, though I can tune it out. I also think it's fun to pick fonts which harmonize well, but I don't know what kinds of fonts LaTeX can support.

@juergen_hubert I agree with Irina, either of the middle 2 choices look better. Although you didn't ask - what I found most disruptive to reading these short samples was the change in the font style between the explanatory text and the story. If that was just to show the effect of the layout […]

@elteleoperador.com Jon Stewart is great. This was probably my favorite from the monologue: "In France, they've burned down an entire city because of a war they didn't start and aren't even any part of. And here in the country that started the war, we're not even sure we're going to get to […]

@dryad.technology Of course you're a Pinkwater fan, I should have guessed! I love his books, and raised both of my kids on them. A movie of Lizard Music sounds amazing. Maybe it'll be a megahit and start a trend, who knows? My favorites are probably Young Adult Novel and Alan Mendelsohn, The […]

@sundogplanets Well I think it works great, as long as you put the fusion reactor far enough out in space. For example, 1 AU seems a pretty workable distance, and we're still ramping up the amount of electricity we get from that one.

See, THIS is what the Internet is supposed to be for
People also ask
Who legally owns the One Ring?Realistically the Nation of Gondor would have the strongest claim and thus Aragorn as it rightful head of state.
While Isildur took the ring as spoils of war it was never taken from him or sold. Just lost this becoming an artifact. It was found by Deagol and should have been given to the Gondorian authorities for curation in a museum. Though Mordor does have valid.claim as the artefact was created by one of its citizens and is a cultural price of great importance
Isn't it technically Sauron's property?

I thought this was made pretty clear. It "answers to him and him alone" could imply ownership in perpetuity. Probably more than a few quotes to back that up. Everyone else who possesses it brings it back to Sauron in one way or another. Or the sackville bagginses.

also he never willingly abbandoned it. so legally don't think anyone else has a claimThe Deagol estate.

Possibly the actual answer, if abandonment kicks in while it's in the river, he might be the true owner when. he dies.

But if he died intestate without a will, it would revert through escheatment to the local government, since killing Deagol does not make it Sméagol's. So it would become the possession of whatever government the Stoors have??

@atax1a The communication is the actual software. The executable is a byproduct. Without the communication and without the software living in people's minds, every line of code is just another liability.

@atax1a 100% this. Someone else around here was quoting someone to this effect, and I think it's true — paraphrased from memory: Software only lives in the knowledge and understanding of its developers. I take this as: If you have some lines of code or a binary that you don't understand and […]

It's also very frustrating to constantly have my opposition to AI be taken as an opposition to abstraction, or to automation, and a desire to do every little thing by hand. But it's the opposite. For a whole bunch of reasons, AI anti-abstracts. It adversarially creates oceans of duplication to […]

Our cats are very upset and having literal hissy-fits because there is An Interloper! The interloper in question:
A young black and white cat with tuxedo markings, barely past kitten stage, is peering out from under a Scandinavian style wood and vinyl chair. The same young black and white cat has come out from under the chair and is trotting diagonally left and towards the camera. The same young black and white cat is closer still, in a half seated position, staring towards the right. OMG this cat is RIGHT THERE!
