Spectacular op shop find today - the very title conjures the intense excitement I felt when I read this book 30 years ago… I can’t wait to read it again and remember what it was all about!

‘Costs for putting on a show have risen more than 40% since 2016, and many expenses are paid more than a year before the first ticket is even sold. Arts grants have been declining in real terms for decades, and corporate sponsorship has dried up…We have reached the point where less is less…’

Wellington’s arts organisations are being asked to deliver more with less, but there is a limit to how far resilience can stretch, writes Tāwhiri executive director Angela Green.

Had a very good time at this Verb Festival debate last night, despite the existential seriousness of the moot (Don’t Worry, Tech Will Save Us). The affirmative team led by Toby Manhire lost to the negative team led by Chloe Swarbrick, but the funny affirmations were secretly on the negative side too

Sometimes I'm in a pleasant and cosy frame of mind, and I look back at something I wrote and go daaaamn I was not fucking around hahahaha
"“Asians” do not always have a shared ethnic history, language, religion, tradition or migration cohort. Oft-times, our homelands have been or are still at war with each other, even as others cannot tell us apart in the suburbs of Auckland. But more often, we do have a common history or experience of migration, arrival, settlement and daily life that has been governed by a racial and colonial logic marking us out for a clear purpose, which I will state bluntly: To return an advantage to colonial capital through replacing more expensive and better-organised labour."

Excerpt from 'Stuck in the middle with you', introductory essay to the book Between Dreams: Resistance and representation in Asian Aotearoa

Rewilded land remains green amid drought-stricken English countryside, images show
National Trust’s Holnicote estate says restored wetlands and rivers offer proof of resilience to drought, wildfires and flooding Aerial footage of an estate in Somerset has revealed the benefits of rewilding land in the face of extreme weather brought about by the climate crisis. The area of the National Trust’s Holnicote estate where rivers have been returned to their natural courses and wetlands have been restored have remained green and lush during the five heatwaves across the summer. In contrast, the surrounding countryside has become parched and brown. Continue reading...
