Puzzled by OpenAI’s strategy on this. It isn’t just comms. There is indeed an adult there, and you can read the conflict in the releases. It’s the strategy itself that’s odd.

Growing up in NB, the Maine accent sounded extremely foreign. Listening the Maine Senate debate, it sounds closer to NB than Mass. Troy sounds like he’s from Grand Manan, with those long A’s.

It’s largely driven by AI advances stripping away the mystery around how brains solve complex cognitive tasks. The big takeaway from AI over the last 10 years: give a distributed system enough search time, a good search space, and an optimal tool, and it will solve harder and harder problems. (2/n)

Some of the over the horizon discussions assumed new problems. Some are believed to be solveable by [more pre/post training / data] and some to intractable due to incentive conflict.

Most of the over horizon discussions assumed that human problems caused by humans would persist in spite of [RSI]. The invention of the spreadsheet didn’t kill the steering committee or the KPEYMG consultant report on reforming procurement reform (Let’s take a step back here (TM)).

At least 3 conferences cohabited one space today. 7 talks were over the horizon. At least 4 talks were present-tactical. At least 5 talks mourning a past that really wasn’t that good, and fearful of a shittier future.

Most of the stories are perspective coordination issues. I used to believe that it was sometimes by design: the conflict over colour wasn’t about colour, it was about who gets to decide. And sometimes the ambiguity in authority is by design. Most of the time it’s emergent.

in regards to AI policy, it’s: - researchers’ job to surface facts - journalists’ job to broadcast the message - politicians’ job to frame facts in various worldviews and create policies to support - the public’s job to vote it’s always a win if that’s happening, even if it doesn’t go my way
