So many important takeaways in this new report about jails and mass deportation from @prisonpolicy.org @jkangbrown.bsky.social 1) the scope of immigrants incarcerated *for immigration* is much higher than what is reported by ICE www.prisonpolicy.org/reports/jail...
graphic pie chart showing the scope of immigrant incarceration in the US. While ICE detention data recorded 57,200 people on average in June 2025, a broader count of people detained shows the overall crimmigration system is 45% larger, at around 83,400 people.

“Gaza is hell on earth. Our own staff are fainting on duty from hunger and exhaustion,” says UNRWA Juliette Touma to BBC. During the ceasefire, 500–600 trucks a day entered #Gaza with aid from the UN, including UNRWA. That’s what prevented famine before. That system must be restored.

We're now at nearly 100 Palestinians killed in 2 days by the Israelis while waiting at food centers / for food trucks. They are clearly gathering them in a few locations to make it easier to kill as many as they can.

Cookie Monster on the strategy to demoralize, destabilize, and distract... Awesomeness from Sally Pirie.
Sally Pirie's drawing of Cookie Monster with a partially eaten cookie. He's saying "For real - NPR and PBS are just one part of their strategy to demoralize, destabilize, and distract. You'd think this show was brought to you by the letter D but nope -- It's brought to you by the letter F. Because this is Fucking Fascism."

Israeli forces have now dropped more explosives in Gaza than fell on London, Dresden, and Hamburg during the Second World War. The region’s hospitals have not been spared; most are no longer functional. Clayton Dalton writes about the devastation.

Her family was aware of cops killing people in mental health crises and called 911 to get an ambulance to take her to a hospital. Cops came because it's "standard procedure" Only the cops arrived at their front door. They kicked it, entered & immediately shot Victoria www.nj.com/bergen/2024/...
Chris, Lee's brother, called 911 twice on July 28, according to the family's statement.
At 1:15 a.m., Chris made the first call to 911,
"specifically requesting an ambulance to take Victoria to Valley Hospital, where she had received treatment at its sister facility, Ramapo Mental Hospital, in the past," the family said.
He was informed police would also accompany the ambulance because that is standard procedure for mental health calls.Concerned by recent news of police shootings, Chris called 911 again at approximately 1:20 a.m. "to provide additional information and prevent any potential misunderstanding or unnecessary escalation with the police," the family said.
Chris also asked that police not enter the apartment, but was told that the police were required to respond for mental health cases, the family said.
To try and de-escalate the situation, Chris met police outside the door of the apartment, while Lee and her mother remained inside the unit.
An officer asked Chris for a key to the apartment, which he didn't have, the family said.
The officer then pushed Chris aside and started to kick the door, the family alleged.
