If this line were serving at least 1-2 trains per hour, it would make sense. But only 14 trains a day (and this project only allows for one additional roundtrip) is quite sad and disproportionate

"is AI conscious" is a way less interesting question to me than "precisely which human cognitive functions can be offloaded to silicon & scaled" because the first feels like a language game & the second is actually being answered in interesting ways

To the unfamiliar eye, seeing such a massive investment (of time, money, and physical size) makes it seem like it’s translating into a major improvement for passengers. However, this project allows for only one (1) new RT per day and it forces SB riders to take a longer route to the platform.

Our politicians think things costing more is good (look at how much we are investing!) so idk how we fix this 😭

US station design standards seem propelled by an incredibly odd mix of ADA concerns. A double elevator where you can’t level board is really weird.

I’m sure that was a big part of why the design is the way it is. But I think it highlights how various other issues and requirements make a seemingly simple problem expensive and time consuming to solve (why are our elevators so poorly built and maintained that building a redundant one is better?)

An additional consideration I learned recently is that underpasses are out of the question, since the ground is owned by the freight rail operator and the underpass would mean additional liability or other responsibility for them, which they’re of course completely opposed to

Compare that to Sturtevant, where it’s a simpler structure. Just two towers and a bridge

Interested Milwaukee Citizen @citizenmke.bsky.social · 11h
Yeah it’s crazy. This one’s also larger than Sturtevant, with two sets of elevators one each side

Look at how much infrastructure was required to allow passengers to cross a 2 track line to allow boarding on the other platform. For a service that runs 7 times a day. I think this took 3.5 years to build and cost nearly $20 million

So glad no one followed up to ask him to clarify what exactly that means. If impeachment is neither on the table nor off of it, is it inside the table? Or is Jeffries an inter-dimensional being that has access to a 3 state Boolean?

The fundamental problem for American society right now is that the liberal establishment is made up entirely of people for whom “getting scolded / getting in trouble” is the worst possible punishment, so nothing ever extends beyond that.

Imo (and I understand how poor airports are as a transit connection), it would be good include the connection as part of a project to move the Blue/Orange sections downtown underground. A tunnel like this to extend the Orange line to the airport

I wonder how related it is to how San Diego actually designed a good light rail and corresponding bus network, similar to Canada’s, which has yielded similar results. From @a320lga.bsky.social a fee years ago: homesignalblog.wordpress.com/2024/07/12/t...

Asking why a freeway might be 55 mph is like asking why the TGV doesn’t travel 250 kph+ in Paris proper.
000
Interested Milwaukee Citizen @citizenmke.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
I mean it depends. The US has way too many urban freeways where 55 is an appropriate speed limit due to frequency of entrances/exits and the corresponding number of vehicles entering/exiting the freeway. Additionally, these freeways are generally narrower and have more curves.

I do believe grade separates highways are the least dangerous road type in the USA. The boulevard, being the worst. But the general theme does represent how Americans uniquely debate the enforcement of laws rather than changing the laws.

Very exciting news for my street, the lights have been upgraded to LEDs, which are brighter and more reliable (the one to the left would often go dark for long periods)

Midterms I think can be weird too, with different turnout and issues in different places. Presidential years are less weird when voting for president is the defining election (and turnout is more predictable and partisanship plays a bigger role)

The original graph is comparing net worth. That includes home values for homeowners right? Potentially, millennials having a higher net worth is helped by elevated housing prices, especially in metro areas where home prices outpaced inflation.

My statement on the ICE shooting in Marble Hill ⬇️

"Today in Marble Hill, ICE agents fired multiple shots at a man in his vehicle while his 5-year-old child was in the back seat.
ICE's already unwelcome presence in our city has been growing more escalatory and dangerous by the day. Today's shooting is a grave development that requires a swift and immediate response to protect the safety of all New Yorkers.
First, we must have a full and independent investigation of this incident.
"There must also be a full and immediate release of all body camera footage of the incident.
In addition, the Target Corporation must stop offering their Bronx properties as private staging sites for ICE, in compliance with requests from New York officials. Target opening up large, active retail parking lots for paramilitary activity is unacceptable and places the entire community at risk.
ICE is a rogue, lawless paramilitary and surveillance agency.
It does not belong in New York City and it should not exist in the United States of America. Abolish ICE.”

This was supposed to be break out year, with like a dozen projects planned. Unfortunately many were pushed back to next year, so by late 2027/early 2028, there should be a proper network where biking around the city (not just a few short corridors) should have a few safe options

Using a local TID, they were able to fund the extension east to Water quite quickly. Using a federal CMAQ grant, they’re extending it west to 40th st. It’s unfortunately taking longer than expected, but with all of the construction happening, there’s not as much contractor capacity

A great example is the Walnut/Lisbon corridor. There was already the planned reconstruction project that would include raised bike lanes and the rest the corridor is very wide with low traffic, so converting a driving lane to a protected bike lane is easier to do.

Interested Milwaukee Citizen @citizenmke.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
It is patchwork yes b/c of the complexities in how funding is acquired as well as the desire to build the network as quickly as possible. The approach that was taken was to identify opportune corridors where improvements could be more easily and cheaply and target projects for them
