The takeaway from Bo French suggesting Asian students are “foreigners” and the tepid GOP response is that the Trump-era Republican Party is increasingly explicit about its belief that the only good immigrants, and the only real Americans, are white. (Gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...
The Afrikaner policy is illuminating, because it proves the catch-22 facing nonwhite immigrants: If you are poor, you are a moocher, and if you are gainfully employed, you are taking a job from a hardworking American. The only way to be a good immigrant is to be white and Christian.

Bo French, who is running for a seat on the Texas Railroad Commission, has taken this idea a step further, suggesting that the only way to be an American is to be white and Christian.

It's because it's so insane and the relevant authorities are so uninformed that they're not realizing this was avoidable. Instead, they're treating it as inevitable. If it's inevitable, then the fact that it happened to OAI just means they're further ahead instead of that they're negligent

For me, it's usually that arrays aren't matching sizes, there's a blank in a table that someone else added, something I thought was a value is actually text, or a formula has a restriction on the inputs that wasn't explained on ExcelJet or a similar website. AI helps me figure out the specific issue

I find that AI is really bad at understanding what I need Excel to do with a formula unless I give it an example. The most useful case I've found is to write a functioning formula and ask AI to make it more efficient or to give AI a non-functioning formula and ask why it's non-functioning

A lot of the spreadsheet stuff I've used LLMs for has been bad. It hardly ever produces the result that I want unless I give it a place to start from or an example. Claude is particularly good at making Excel formulas more efficient, and I learned a lot from seeing what replacements were made

"If you say Abolish ICE, Republicans will say you want open borders." Right but it's your job to communicate persuasively enough to 1) win and 2) enact your party's agenda. If you don't have the requisite talent, you're unfit, step aside. If you don't *want to* then you're unfit, step aside

Essential point here. In saying migrant farmworkers help the economy, Markwayne Mullin was speaking for a genuine constituency inside the GOP that continues to get overruled by Stephen Miller, who knows he absolutely cannot open the door a tiny crack to the idea that immigration is ever good for USA

There is a lot of non-consensual AI use though. Google presenting an AI summary with every single search and putting it on the user to include "-AI" every time is egregiously wasteful, and companies are increasingly inserting AI functions where they're not wanted or even useful

This is beside the point, but your dishwasher is so much more efficient at cleaning dishes than you are that running it 2 or 3 times still saves water over hand-washing. Running the sink until its hot and adding soap for pre-wash basically make pre-cleaning a fool's errand

I know this isn't the point, but I finally got my wife to stop scrubbing dishes. Putting some detergent in for pre-rinse and running the sink until it's hot before starting the dishwasher basically removes 99% of food, including stuck on foods

Modest Mussorgsky: “When a German thinks, he reasons his way to a conclusion. Our Russian brother, on the other hand, starts with a conclusion and then might amuse himself with some reasoning.” American voters are, in this sense, very Russian. They like who they like; then backfill policy reasons.
