How do you evolve a #DesignSystems without breaking products - or losing the decisions behind it? And what changes when AI agents start using it too? Because access to a component library doesn’t mean knowing how to use it. Although, to be fair, that’s been a problem for humans for a while too… ;)

Test whether your system can explain itself: Pick the component your team is afraid to change. Look for where design, code, and actual usage disagree. Decide what the change really means. Encode that understanding. Make it clear where automation needs to stop. Prove it in a real product.

"You don't really know a design system until you have to change it." That was the main thesis of my @codeeurope.bsky.social talk: #DesignSystems That Explain Themselves. It grew out of my own experiences and observations, with Netflix's Hawkins Visual Refresh as one of the case studies.

In March, I ran a half-marathon in 2:16:51. Today, I can barely run 2,5km at once. It’s unbelievable how difficult it is to get back to #running after a ~10-week break (still playing tennis at least twice a week during that time). Not giving up, yet!

I took 2 days off to got for Orla Perć - one of the most difficult and dangerous trails in the Polish #Tatras. Yet, with a heavy heart, I decided to cancel the #hike due to the the weather. Watching this video only reinforces my belief that a step back is often better than a reckless move forward.
