How much does America's war on Iran have in common with Russia's war on Ukraine? It's another of those questions that looks mad at first glance, until you start digging into it in detail - after which, the idea is still mad, but it's also hard to argue with the evidence for it.
Putin has a "Special Military Operation". Trump has a "Military Operation". Definitely neither of them is a war.

The SCO and BRICS summits indicate Russia retains sufficient value to China, India and other non-Western powers to pursue its war objectives. Europe needs to adjust to that reality.

Eventually, attention will return to ending the war on Ukraine. If and when there is a ceasefire, the biggest danger for Europe is that its leaders may confuse a pause in the fighting with an end to the war. A ceasefire will be a race to rearm, and it is still vital that Russia should not win it.
