Nova Scotia must take action to prevent deaths from pick-ups and large SUVs
Pickups, largely promoted and used for personal travel, along with SUVs and minivans, accounted for almost 88% of new vehicle sales in Canada in 2025.

"it’s hard to find a good reason why cities shouldn’t charge a higher price — that is to say, a fair price — for the road space rented as parking for pickups" - @albertkoehl.bsky.social #onpoli #biketo www.torontotoday.ca/local/opinio...
A pickup truck that is parked along the curb dwarfs smaller vehicles behind it. (The driver pays the same for a parking spot.)

Does a pickup's high front-end compensate for the driver's wee little cargo space? We don't think so. Every 10cm increase in front-end height = 22% increase in death risk to pedestrian in crash. Meanwhile, cargo space has remained largely the same. #onpoli www.walktoronto.ca/wp-content/u...

It was an honour to give the keynote address at this conference, and I was humbled to learn how many people in the room were working across borders, in creative ways, to make our region more sustainable.

What a gem of a book! The reference section includes sections for: songs, podcasts, films, artwork, plays and jokes. Proud of Dr Codling, a former student from my University of Reading days.

Koehl: Free us from the danger of pickup trucks
Pickups are marketed for their capacity to conquer lunar landscapes, but they’re far more likely to be seen at a Tim Hortons drive-through.
