Sleep deserves attention. But as that attention grows, so does our responsibility to communicate about it carefully. In an era of sleep trackers, health apps, social media, and health optimisation, we need to communicate better, not less. Sleep matters. But you don’t have to sleep perfectly.

8 years ago, I had the privilege of meeting these Nobel Prize laureates. They revealed how our cells follow a roughly 24-hour rhythm that tells us when to sleep, wake up, and regulate essential bodily functions. The photos, taken at Uppsala Castle, show me with Michael Rosbash and Michael W. Young.

🧠 In reproductive-aged women, sleeping <7h & having a higher progesterone-to-estradiol ratio were linked to stronger wanting & liking of savory food (Pringles) during simulated night shifts. 💡 Sleep ≥7h & choose healthy snacks (e.g., nuts) during the luteal phase. academic.oup.com/sleep/advanc...
