music dork, movie nerd, tv junkie, gaming goofus...opinions mine, unfortunately. For work I spend lots of time surveying public opinion on all kinds of stuff. Also: St. Louis Cardinals, Blues, and Mizzou. Actively shopping for a Prem side to cheer for.

RIP (at 102 years old!) to my favorite Hitchcock blonde...and still the queen of one of the greatest rock and roll lyrics of all time.

I am reliably told that John Stollenwerk -- I think was a former walk-on -- who started a bunch of games in the dark ages of Mizzou football under Woody Widenhofer in the late '80s was the only other lefty QB to start a lot of games for the Tigers. And he did not exactly have a rocket.

Yup. Went down with injury? I think? And lost the job to Trinidad Chambliss....who yeah, I get that. But yeah, he's a helluva get.

Dunno whether Mizzou can hold on here or not, but Austin Simmons has an arm that the Tigers haven't seen since...ever? I mean, maybe Chase Daniel, but he might have more of a rocket than CD10. Also can't remember the Tigers ever starting a lefty QB before. So that's kind of neat to watch.

I get the impression you could ask this Pope about the best three-album run of the 1980s and he'd have a take.

The ripples off of the Man City case could impact all other sports as well. I realize there are lots of sports fans here in the States who don't follow the Prem, but this might be the biggest sports story in years and years.

Reading the QuarterToThree forum discussion on "Backrooms" is making me feel like I'm reading an entire forum thread with a bunch of Bosley Crowthers discussing "Bonnie & Clyde".

Ballpark factors are definitely a thing. And he has a history of absolutely *raking* in that Arizona ballpark, so it was a nice move for his HoF chances.

Road game, SEC, two top 25 teams (at the moment) playing? Yeah, that'll happen. (MSU was a 5.5 point favorite on Bovada.)

The haters said Mizzou couldn't get it done in the hostile environment at Mississippi State last night. And the haters were correct. Honestly, great call by the haters.

I was Program Director at KCOU at ol' Mizzou when we got our copy for airplay. Even for us jaded and cynical heard-it-all hipster-wannabe doofuses, it was one of those records where when you hear it, you realize immediately "Oh. Gamechanger."

Last night in MLS play, entering the 64th minute Sporting KC led the resurgent Philadelphia Union 3-nil. By the conclusion of the 73rd minute, Union were beating SKC 4-3. That's....something.

I cannot be the only person thinking of 2004, when a #19 ranked Missouri team (with Brad Smith!) played at what was then called Troy State on a nationally televised Thursday night ESPN game and got a pretty good beating. Just sayin'...

And I also believed that SS directed only one TV movie, but apparently he actually directed THREE. I have no idea what Something Evil is, or what Savage is. But I think I might wanna at least see 'em. We'll see.

And then there's stuff like The Color Purple and 1941, two movies I saw in the theater exactly once and kinda bounced off for different reasons. But I'm not 12 or 16 years old now. Maybe I'll find something worthwhile in either/both?

Chris H @chrishornb.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
I've technically seen 22 of these 39 movies. But I maybe only have meaningful memories of about a dozen. Like, I last saw ET more than 30 years ago. I've seen Munich, Minority Report, Crystal Skull once, and remember almost nothing.

Well, I made the Plex channel, and I think it's the full oeuvre, excepting directing of some early episodic TV shows. ...am I really gonna do this?

Playlists. Maybe I'm the odd one, but I find I do more curation and creation amongst my digital music and streaming than I ever have before. (And I did a LOT of curation and playlist/mixtape making back in the day.)

HT and @stlcitysc.com has a commanding 3-1 lead already. A half that you could go on and on about the positives. - Both DPs signed this window have 1g/1a in Navarro & Holse w/Holse having a hand in all 3 goals - The 3-3-4 in possession from Damet is working. #AllForCITY

To their (dubious) credit, the 8th Circuit did tell Hoskins this morning that he IS subject to the call to appear before the Missouri Supreme Court and show cause that he's not in contempt. Basically "My dude, you are wildly misinterpreting that judge's TRO from Tuesday. Sorry."
030
Chris H @chrishornb.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
The TRO was placed just *minutes* after the Missouri Supreme Court ruled against Missouri SoS Hoskins who was seeking to force the HB1 congressional district map that may have eliminated a heavily blue district that includes Kansas City. That district is set as the only legal map in the state now.

Chris H @chrishornb.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
The Supremacy Clause in the Constitution is a thing that exists. Here's the SCOTUS order staying the TRO placed by the judge in St. Louis two days ago and upheld by the 8th Circuit yesterday.

Chris H @chrishornb.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
SCOTUS just dropped the hammer on the 8th Circuit and Denny Hoskins. 2022 Congressional Map is the ONLY legal map for the Show Me State for the 2026 midterms. Period.

Huh. Tonight I learned that Rafa Navarro's preferred pronunciation (which I am told is standard in Portuguese) is more like "HA-fa Na-Vah-ooh" (But in the interview I saw, he also smilingly said a hard "r" is fine too, if you want to pronounce it in a more Spanglish way.)

Chris H @chrishornb.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Yeah, I don't think there's any way that McVay just came up with this on his own and said "Let's give it a shot." So they've got something there that they believe in/like. As Jeffro so often says midgame in a Redbirds contest: "Let's see!"

Chris H @chrishornb.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
I'd bet on it being worse too. But I'd also bet on them having some sort of data/medical studies/physio advice telling them that this may work out better for them in the long run. Or something.

Chris H @chrishornb.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
At Mizzou -- halfway across the state, literally -- it was pretty much, but not exclusively "soda". But definitely more prevalent. I think my KC relatives also say "pop" though!

Chris H @chrishornb.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
I have a vivid memory of someone who had moved to the area and joined our grade school class in like fifth grade calling it "pop" and being immediately ostracized for a week.
110
Chris H @chrishornb.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
That dialect map going around is WAY off on "Soda" versus "Pop". Pop is a Chicago-ey thing, I think (per Gilmore Girls frame of reference and having lived in that metro 4 years.) "Soda" is definitely St. Louis, southern Illinois, and westward at least to CoMo, perhaps beyond. Promise.
