I mean, surely this has already been tried in Minneapolis, where Frey gets so much hate. How is their petition going?

Only need 13524 signatures of registered Saint Paul voters to initiate a recall election (mayoral election had 67617 votes) Grounds for recall: “Professional misconduct”

Musk is basically a little king who does nothing at this point, as far as SpaceX is concerned. He may have been instrumental to funneling capital to R&D (arguable), but he's no longer needed.

010

Chris Daniel @chrisdaniel.net · 28/09/2026

Pretty sure that can be accomplished without affecting any space programs :-P

Chris Daniel @chrisdaniel.net · 28/09/2026

Personally, looking back after 20+ years of watching the space industry in the US, I'm very happy with the progress. We already reuse ~60% of Falcon 9 for 30+ flights. That's way ahead of fully disposable rockets. The Shuttle could have been fully, rapidly reusable, but DoD scope creep killed it.

000

Chris Daniel @chrisdaniel.net · 28/09/2026

Depends on your objective, I guess. Starship is far from complete. The goal is full, rapid reusability. Blue Origin's New Glenn is the other competitor -- with another potential emerging from China in a decade or so, all others multiple decades behind. It is still a long road to there from here.

Starship, the largest rocket ever flown, has made it to orbit for the first time today, on the 18th anniversary of Falcon 1 making orbit, which was roughly 6 years after the founding of SpaceX. Publicly subsidized? Largely, yes. The current state was the dream of COTS: diversify space access.

Apparently, when you have so much of other people's money that you can just run millions of non-deterministic computer programs that break into everything on the internet "without your knowledge," you won't be held responsible under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

Cynical profit motives aside, people who are okay with EPA rules being repealed are complacent. Clean Air/Clean Water Acts have given us so much. Lots of adults today do not remember the polluted world of just a few decades ago. We take clean air and water for granted, but they are hard-won.

Unbelievable how bad certain parts of the "web" have gotten. In 2026, a major "website" made by one of the largest tech companies in the world won't render at all in Firefox. Threads, made by Meta -- the most anti-web company. The web made Meta, but this is what they give back.

A post on Threads as it renders in Firefox -- just a giant, light-grey "at" symbol on a white background. Scrolling reveals more giant symbols in different colors, and some unstyled text.

Chicago-area members of Congress have asked DHS's Inspector General to investigate a "severe pattern of incidents of excessive force" by ICE and CBP agents. The letter heavily cites our recent report on an increasingly violent group of agents we tracked across Chicago, Minnesota, and Virginia.
