Was part of a show and tell from the head groundskeeper at Eden Park early this year. Impressive. I am no lawn fan, but I appreciate expertise and passion!

Does anyone remember that chart of NZ supermarket Mallowpuffs (? or biscuit) prices from a week or two back? Please I would like to see it again :)

1/3 🦋 Good ideas are easy to find. People who help make them happen are precious. Every success at the Moths and Butterflies of New Zealand Trust has volunteers behind it. Some have given years; others a few hours. Both matter. (more to come)

"We do not expect the unthinkable." EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED. Did you not watch Terrahawks? "Further price rises will be incremental." Quite likely.
Newspaper article on gas prices including thoughts like "(price) is not expected to reach unthinkable $4" and "further price rises will be incremental"

I had a conversation w a Lyft driver a few weeks ago that I still think about. I hope this musician, eager to share her art, finds her way to teaching. While the conversation started rocky, Im glad she got an opportunity to talk about her ambitions. Piano teachers are way more valuable than A.I.

I got myself a batch of OIA documents from the Ministry of Education about school attendance. One of them presents David Seymour with a rather awkward problem. It begins on 11 February 2025. Intrigued? #nzpol

strong correlation btw 1) "actual reporter on our team wrote this" and 2) "this story cost us more to write" and 3) "story is specific to REGION, so REGION readers will pay for it, nobody else covers this" There's probably a business rule AND discretion at work?

Yes and yes, I think. I have lots of issues with the machine of business which drives this. I also believe journos and news rooms have a pretty good grip on how to sort stories into buckets like "don't run ads in this sensitive story" and "story which drives subscription".

If you’ve got kids studying in Dunedin who aren’t yet enrolled to vote, encourage them to get along to this all ages, alcohol free, voter enrolment music festival. Loads of really great bands in the lineup! (Yes including my kid, but genuinely, lots of great talent.) #nzpol

IME what will most motivate to purchase a sub. Wire stories keep casual readers engaged but are available elsewhere so they are salad. Local / topical focus are the main meals folks are more likely to pony up for.

I don't _hate_ the format this feed to bsky bot is doing, tbh. What does the repetition tell us? What does the division tell us? What does it say when every story appears as a Viewmaster of the poster image?

playlist poster image gives a whole AI-generated vibe - if this isn't a playlist of AI-generated music I recommend using any actual art (Sorry to be Hall Monitor, but you might appreciate knowing this sends a message to listeners)
Poster image for the linked playlist, which looks extremely skin crawling AI generated, it's a speaker in the middle of a valley with the sun setting argh look it's really hard to write alt text for something that has so much going on and so little visual meaning
