People on the left trying to justify this because of anger are no different than Trump backers justifying the storming of the Capitol on Jan 6, 2021. You either are for mindless destruction or oppose it. I am against.

I do not read that graph the same way, even a majority answering this way on a single issue may not when a series of issues are at stake. Besides the majority there isn’t that large.

I am curious how this has been done in the past. A credible threat on a president, it makes sense, for him to be moved secretly. Can the press be notified w/out compromising intelligence (maybe after the fact?) I hear multiple cars / trains are not uncommon in dangerous situations.

Even on issues I feel strongly, I often advocate for piece-meal, step-by-step reform rather than a wrecking ball. The latter is less likely to pass, and if it does pass, it is more likely to violently swing back.

Lots broken before Trump 1.0, maybe that is why he was elected. Here is an unparalleled opportunity to design anew, to reimagine, to forge paths informed by the 250 years or so since the constitution. Lots of what existed, had perdured while having been made in a different context.

One should still embody the politics we aspire to rather than in fighting them, become them. Talk about all the real children whose lives are being broken by ice. Use two examples. Vance’s comments raise difficulty questions re his view on certain children, certainly. But do better

Chris Orlic @chris-orlic.eurosky.social · 01/08/2026
This is the kind of talk that we should all be trying to get away from (which I honk is your point). Do I think Vance’s comments re race, belonging, and citizenship raise questions about kids like his own is irrelevant. If dems become them, to win, then they’ve lost already.

Their talking points are nuts. Yet, many countries require national ID. If mandatory & free then 1 could see it being useful. I don’t have a problem having to show id for many things. I agree that you can do most things w/out, but it’s strange voter id is not spoken in relation to national id.

This is partly prompted by the discourse re #Burnham. Early days. He is not a demon b/c he does not align with all my or your views. To some degree the question is not whether he is the ideal leader, but whether he is better than the most realistic alternatives.

“Every man’s utopia is someone else’s” authoritarian dictatorship. I (and yes you) am/are wrong about a bunch of stuff. Thing “D” may not be a big issue. Or one desired solution could have terrible consequences. Be cautious, reflect, and have intellectual humility.

Chris Orlic @chris-orlic.eurosky.social · 30/07/2026
One could select to ignore issue “b,” even if it’s a very important; solely b/c it makes addressing other issues harder. So while we may deeply care about “b,” we ought not to demonize them for working on other existing issues before “b”. In fact, that may even help them w/ b in the future.

Chris Orlic @chris-orlic.eurosky.social · 30/07/2026
All politicians have a hard job. In a world with a series of issues, we must accept solving issue “b,” may make solving other issues more difficult. So, we even, an ideal politician, has to make choices and be strategic. Momentum maters and mistakes will happen. Deciding what to do first is hard 1/

Publicly he was. One can imagine a politician taking a public position in tension with a private one. Had he openly favored it, he may have lost votes. Perhaps the timeline of his public/private change do not align. I think this is partly your point. The people running cannot afford to shed votes
