guess i'm crying about fiction and fanfiction at 5pm on a monday. no, not any particular story, but how it's all of us saying hey, this is what it feels like

screenshot of a tumblr post of a photo of a book post by vexheart book says "borders and divides. There are large, glamorous industries around stories; the book industry, the movie industry, the television industry, the theatre industry. But in the end, stories are about one person saying to another: This is the way it feels to me. Can you understand what I'm say-ing? Does it also feel this way to you?" author - Kazuo Ishiguro, My Twentieth Century Evening and Other Small Breakthroughs

when you think about the fact that the majority of people on earth need some form of corrective lens to see clearly it is easy to imagine a medieval fantasy world where the famed eyesight of whatever tolkienesque elves are there is literally just that most of them see 20/20 without any assistance

sorry basically the problem of my life is that i internalized and believed a lot of stuff people said about valuing children and loving your neighbor and living in a society at the exact moment that everyone in power decided all of that shit was fake and gay and not a way to make a living

my only notes to people under 30: your 30s aren't for ditching fandom, they're for re-evaluating all the "cringe" stuff you liked as a teenager through the lens of someone who can appreciate it fully, going, "that owned, actually," and becoming even more unhinged about it. please look forward to it.

hi this is my favorite writing advice, it's from former simpsons writer john swartzwelder (i think about the crappy little elf all the time) www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...

screengrab of a portion of new yorker interview with former simpson's writer john swartzwelder:
Mike Sacks: How much time and attention did you spend on these scripts? Another “Simpsons” writer once compared your scripts to finely tuned machines—if the wrong person mucked with them, the whole thing could blow up.
Swartzwelder: All of my time and all of my attention. It’s the only way I know how to write, darn it. But I do have a trick that makes things easier for me. Since writing is very hard and rewriting is comparatively easy and rather fun, I always write my scripts all the way through as fast as I can, the first day, if possible, putting in crap jokes and pattern dialogue—“Homer, I don’t want you to do that.” “Then I won’t do it.” Then the next day, when I get up, the script’s been written. It’s lousy, but it’s a script. The hard part is done. It’s like a crappy little elf has snuck into my office and badly done all my work for me, and then left with a tip of his crappy hat. All I have to do from that point on is fix it. So I’ve taken a very hard job, writing, and turned it into an easy one, rewriting, overnight. I advise all writers to do their scripts and other writing this way. And be sure to send me a small royalty every time you do it.

Some Ackerman family bonding time, continuing to accidentally make this #eruri fic a #kenuri Nutcracker AU #wipwednesday

Fan fiction text: "Ya know, Uri was saying he wanted you to do more of the talking to the parents this year if you feel up to it."

"Tch, I'll never ‘feel up’ to that and Uri knows it."

"Mmm, yeah. You, me, your mom – none of us ever were that sort of person. Better behind the scenes."

"Are you saying you think you're the power behind the throne around here, Kenny?"

Kenny cracked a wide smile at that. "I'm saying I built the throne, brat, and covered it with goddamn craft glitter. Someone has to do the practical shit to keep this ballet thing going. You and Uri can thank me later."

"He seemed to be thanking you plenty this morning."

"Listen, if you're going to come barging into someone's kitchen unannounced–"

"I live with you."

" –unannounced, you're gonna risk seeing two consenting adults expressing their feelings for one another."

Writing an #eruri Nutcracker AU, but devoting all my page space to the gay dance uncles #kenuri backstory. Ballet dancer Erwin and Levi's first date conversations for #wipwednesday.

Fan fiction text reading: "How did they meet, if you don't mind me asking? They seem…"

"Different? Literally the last people you'd ever expect to be together?" Levi cracked a sly smile. Erwin relished it.

"I guess that's what I was getting at."

"Yeah, I dunno. It's a cliché, but they complement each other. They met when my mom went down to New York for ballet school. She was seventeen, so Kenny went along to chaperone. That went about as well as you’d imagine. Long story short, a few months later my mom came back pregnant with me and Kenny came back with Uri. My grandparents were pissed."

Erwin was relieved when Levi smiled again, since he wasn't sure how to react to that information.

"Anyway, so now you know the origin story of Trost Ballet. Teen pregnancy and Kenny's gay awakening. Tell me more about you."

my controversial writers opinion is that if you call a book a queer book then the people who need to read it most will be the last to pick it up, gay stuff should ideally be like a cultural landmine, ready to blow off a foot when someone is 100 pages in, we are everywhere, no escape, only gay

Finally getting around to posting my #eruri #kenuri Nutcracker AU wip on here. Levi, Kenny, and Uri run a small town ballet studio. They hire Erwin, a professional dancer and visiting instructor at a local college, to play the Prince in their annual production of The Nutcracker. #wipwednesday

Every Sunday from late August to December, kids in leotards would file into the Trost Ballet Academy studio and rehearse the story of Clara – the little girl who falls asleep after a Christmas party and dreams of traveling to the Land of Sweets. Levi knew every scene, every character, and every bar of music. While some people’s new year began on January 1st, for the Reiss-Ackerman family, each new year began on Nutcracker Audition day. “Levi! Get in here, the stereo’s acting up again,” hollered Kenny from the front door. “Tried kicking it?” “Yep, still needs your special touch,” said Kenny as Levi reached the front steps. “I’d let it occupy you awhile, otherwise Uri will just give you more busy work.”
