I was so excited I went back to the beginning to reread it all in one go. Great story, so glad you decided to extend it. I really enjoyed wwx entering the mdzs world with zero context for anyone he was meeting. 🤭

guess i'm crying about fiction and fanfiction at 5pm on a monday. no, not any particular story, but how it's all of us saying hey, this is what it feels like

screenshot of a tumblr post of a photo of a book post by vexheart book says "borders and divides. There are large, glamorous industries around stories; the book industry, the movie industry, the television industry, the theatre industry. But in the end, stories are about one person saying to another: This is the way it feels to me. Can you understand what I'm say-ing? Does it also feel this way to you?" author - Kazuo Ishiguro, My Twentieth Century Evening and Other Small Breakthroughs

I love that mdzs canon is pretty much just "vibes" so any AU can be "vibes on vibes". It's so freeing to write.

It's pretty easy to grind up a small batch and it'll keep in the fridge a few weeks. Then you find excuses to sprinkle it on/in everything - oatmeal, cookies, cups of tea.

when you think about the fact that the majority of people on earth need some form of corrective lens to see clearly it is easy to imagine a medieval fantasy world where the famed eyesight of whatever tolkienesque elves are there is literally just that most of them see 20/20 without any assistance

I don't think you're being a buzzkill! When its done well, I don't notice it because the author has done the worldbuilding and character work so that any ahistoric beliefs make sense.

I didnt comment on this earlier because so far April has been...a month.., but I'd love to read this fic (or fic ideas) at any point in the process! I think eruri works so well in spy stories. The second you said Notorious, I was recasting it in my head.

sorry basically the problem of my life is that i internalized and believed a lot of stuff people said about valuing children and loving your neighbor and living in a society at the exact moment that everyone in power decided all of that shit was fake and gay and not a way to make a living

Have you watched Run with the Wind? It's a one season Anime, very cozy, but with a storyline that gets you hooked. I'm not a big sports Anime person, but its a comfort watch for me.

It pairs well with a sweet dill mustard on a cracker or slice of toasted baguette (search for gravlax sauce recipes, or if you're in the US, Trader Joe's sells jars of it). My favorite bagel shop does a sesame bagel with salmon, cucumbers, pickled ginger, and scallion cream cheese.

my only notes to people under 30: your 30s aren't for ditching fandom, they're for re-evaluating all the "cringe" stuff you liked as a teenager through the lens of someone who can appreciate it fully, going, "that owned, actually," and becoming even more unhinged about it. please look forward to it.

hi this is my favorite writing advice, it's from former simpsons writer john swartzwelder (i think about the crappy little elf all the time) www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...

screengrab of a portion of new yorker interview with former simpson's writer john swartzwelder:
Mike Sacks: How much time and attention did you spend on these scripts? Another “Simpsons” writer once compared your scripts to finely tuned machines—if the wrong person mucked with them, the whole thing could blow up.
Swartzwelder: All of my time and all of my attention. It’s the only way I know how to write, darn it. But I do have a trick that makes things easier for me. Since writing is very hard and rewriting is comparatively easy and rather fun, I always write my scripts all the way through as fast as I can, the first day, if possible, putting in crap jokes and pattern dialogue—“Homer, I don’t want you to do that.” “Then I won’t do it.” Then the next day, when I get up, the script’s been written. It’s lousy, but it’s a script. The hard part is done. It’s like a crappy little elf has snuck into my office and badly done all my work for me, and then left with a tip of his crappy hat. All I have to do from that point on is fix it. So I’ve taken a very hard job, writing, and turned it into an easy one, rewriting, overnight. I advise all writers to do their scripts and other writing this way. And be sure to send me a small royalty every time you do it.
