Its a snapshot of what I see as the single biggest challenge for contemporary data viz/freelancers: reach. Compared to ~10 years ago - golden age of twitter, people still visiting websites, RSS content platforms - you have to work so hard to get something seen, then read, and even harder for clicks.

Just come across these interviews on Instagram with movie stars where they’re challenged to guess the films they’ve been in/directed based on the average colours on screen across the duration of the movie. Tom Cruise is very good at it www.instagram.com/reel/Dd848fK...

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

I would also move the Home and Away icons top right, move the colour chart to the left and bring the time delay to the right of the colour chart, to connect the two and also to avoid distributing Home and Away left and right, as if on purpose.

Here goes: The NY Islanders have 0 points so far and are going to play outside their division in Toronto against the Maple Leafs (also 0 pts), who played recently. The game will be at 8 pm Atlantic time, 7 pm Eastern... That’s as far as I got. No idea what the minutes of the dotted lines mean.

This week's #TidyTuesday data looks at health metrics in cities across the world 🏥 I created a dot density plot of the population density around hospitals 📊 Thanks to @gabspalomo.bsky.social for curating this week's dataset! #RStats #DataViz #ggplot2
Four-panel dot density chart comparing the median population living within 1 km of a hospital in 2025 across World Bank income groups. Each dot represents approximately 200 people. Low-income countries have 50,000 people, lower-middle-income countries 53,000, upper-middle-income countries 44,000, and high-income countries 28,000. The chart’s main message is that higher-income countries tend to have lower population density around hospitals.

For more senior people, it’s harder to justify the opportunity cost of working on this. I guess a sort of mentorship or review system where senior designers provide feedback to volunteers could be an interesting model? Interested?

Voilà: Francis Gagnon @chezvoila.com · 29/09/2026
I agree that some of the charts are not to the highest standard. I attribute it to a mostly volunteer org anizations that does this kind of work outside of work hours and with too little support from the community. I appreciate all the efforts they put in it.

Ha! Good catch: it looks nothing like the data presented in the associated paragraph.
Respondents indicated what challenges they face when doing data visualization [Figure 18]. The most common challenge was lack of time, selected by 84% of visualizers who responded to this question. Technical limitations of tools (81%), too much effort on non-viz activity (80%), and learning new tools/technologies (79%) were the next most commonly selected responses; technical limitations of the tools was not as big of a challenge in prior years. Across all of the challenges, lack of time (30%), too much effort on non-viz activity (22%), and accessing data (20%) were rated as the most significant challenges, the same top significant challenges as 2023 and 2024.

Asked about AI, Prof Saffron O'Neill said that they published a paper based on a study where they asked AI to create visuals for media and none of it was useful. They were all clichés. The speakers and audience appear quite skeptical of the potential contribution of AI.
