Saw this beauty embedded in the Hot Springs trail at Big Bend National Park in Texas. I couldn't stop staring and touching.

Large ammonite fossil in the rock on the ground. It has large ribs that appear as the fossil spirals around. It looks like a very large cinnamon roll.

We have a non-traditional Thanksgiving feast at our house. This year is cheese enchiladas, rice, refried beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, chips and salsas. Proud to have pulled some jalapenos from our garden. Make the day your own. Hope your day is filled with joy.

Snow in South Central Texas, February 2021, vs. a very warm fall, almost December 2024. Same yard. Wonder what the rest of the fall and winter will bring? Going to take advantage of this weather as long as possible.

Suburban backyard garden in a blanket of snow about 3 inches deep. Right in front of you is a wooden deck covered in snow. There are several pots on the deck that are capped in snow. A raised bed garden is in the background. A large oak tree is on the right and has snow on the trunk and branches.

This is the same garden as described before. There is no snow. The unusual warm weather has kept plants green, growing, and producing food.

Yup. I'm scared for myself, my family, and everyone else, really. I hope I'm overreacting. I'm going to put some of that existential terror into my garden. Sunshine, hard work, and fresh veggies will give me an outlet as we watch and wait.

Most of the peppers are red, ripe, and ready to be picked. There is a wooden fence along the left and back sides of the garden. A large wooden garden chair sits on the right side. There are black hoops over the beds in preparation for floating row covers when a freeze comes. There is a row kale plants growing well.

Kids and plants are a natural fit! My students have built an amazing school garden. It SO fun to watch them dig, scream at bugs, water, and play with seeds.

Quick intro. I'm Christy. I'm a middle school science teacher in Blue Dot Texas. I'm also a gardener, cook, wanna be reader if I could not be so tired all the time, and family gal. I'll post garden, dog, and random pics. I have to relearn after going silent! Here's our bestest boy, Ferris.
