How many $$ (including to consultants) went into this mostly do-nothing zoning “reform”? Now it’s being scrapped. No mention here that this all stems from the Mayor’s 2021 campaign pledge to pull back from serious zoning reform. (Yet his admin continues to get praise for housing efforts.)

People move to cities like New York every day because they weren’t lucky enough to be born in a place where they can be themselves. They’ll be the ones that suffer from nativism, not rich people. The rich will always find a home where they want

btw, Nashville is a real housing winner. Here are permits in the central county vs. the rest of the metro. It isn't sprawl that increased. It's infill. And there are a lot of recent reforms that should make the future even brighter. www.mercatus.org/research/pol... fred.stlouisfed.org/graph/?g=1Ypwe

The Eastern Kentucky Community Land Trust is trying to reduce parking minimums in Morehead, KY so that when we do eventually get to the stage of buying/developing houses, we wont eat as much parking costs. Minimum parking standards take significantly increases the cost of development.

The National Zoning Atlas team is out with a blockbuster paper identifying major flaws with the Wharton Index, which has historically been the tool used by economists to make claims about zoning (e.g. Glaeser & Gyourko's 2002 paper on zoning & affordability, with >1200 citations, is based on it...)

One of the problems with the neo-Brandeisian critique of YIMBYism is that no one can explain to me how monopoly pricing power and regulatory capture are supposed to work if we just handwave away the regulations that literally ban new multifamily construction on the vast majority of US urban land.

Why Vermont’s housing shortage can’t be explained by population size alone
A majority of Vermont households — roughly 70% — contain just one or two people. In fact, the average number of people living in each year-round home in Vermont has been on a steady decline for…
