I have been saying this for years. "Drinking the Kool-Aid" sounds a lot less funny/pithy when you realize over 300 people who died there were under eighteen and 150 of them were ten years old and younger.

Country Disco Is Back. Thank Miranda Lambert.
The subgenre extends from Willie and Waylon to Langley and Musgraves, but Lambert’s new album, ‘Crisco,’ brings the Texas tradition to center stage.

Latest WSJ poll: "63% want to pause AI development 61% want a billionaire wealth tax 59% want Medicare for All 57% want a $20 minimum wage 58% want to end U.S. military aid to Israel" This is the center of the country politically. it is time all adjust to this political spectrum, esp. media.

To treat "political hostility" as something distinct from policy, as if there's a civilized way to accomplish ethnic cleansing or a proper debate to be had over transphobia, is absurd

There are times when pro wrestling feels like the greatest thing in the world. Tonight was one of them. What a sad, beautiful, and compelling show this was. I desperately hope that it's a long time before another such tribute is necessary.

Here is an excellent example of framing issues using the appropriate and socially relevant terms, directly addressing the power dynamics embedded in institutions. I wish people would do that more often, especially in the MSM and academia itself.

After this year’s deep Prince estate disappointment/near-betrayal, getting four unheard recordings by America’s Mozart and all they did in 2026 was just finish mixing them (using the same team from the LP, even) is a gift I don’t think can be taken for granted

Things like "best album ever made" are subjective enough to be meaningless. But it's hard to think of a stable definition of the term in which Songs in the Key of Life doesn't qualify for serious consideration. What a treasure. What a wonder.

Every week's a good one for new music, but there's nothing better than a batch of releases that's particularly keyed to your tastes. Last week's bounty - Jake Blount, Rhiannon Giddens, Jake Xerxes Fussell, Orville Peck - was such a treasure. And I haven't even gotten to the Rakim/Wu-Tang collab yet.

It's hard to explain how surreal Memphis has felt for the last couple weeks. It's been intensely hot & humid with no changes or let-ups. It's easy to feel like the climate apocalypse has arrived, or begun a new chapter. But at least we're making it easier to create those crappy-looking A.I. flyers.
