Finished Amitav Ghosh's amazing "River of Smoke," the second book in his Ibis Trilogy, a set of historical novels set just before/during the Opium War. The book is an amazing slow burn - full of details and observations of daily life in 1838/39 Canton. Melancholy,

Last week's reading: Herbert Simon's "The Sciences of the Artificial," 3rd edition. A well-put together book arguing for a systematic study of human-created work. I've been hearing about Simon for a long time - his influence is broad (psychology, comp sci, economics, poly sci, design).
