😂 We had the same conversation this summer in the Alps. Tbf he wore them and said he was glad of them whilst we were up a mountain but not been worn once since. Mentioned needing some new ‘winter’ trainers so I pointed at the trail shoes … death stare in return 🙄

I know we were surely exactly the same but jeeeeeeeez it’s hard going some days 😅

Don’t you just love spending school free weeks and your teenager becomes a sociable civil happy person again. Home now after first day back and the sullen sarcastic delight is upstairs slamming doors again 🙃

Yeah she usually travels in June and September. I wish I *could* just bugger off for 2 weeks in June or September! She just suddenly made a fuss about ‘I always get first choice’ .. Be my guest, love, it’s your money you’re really not missing anything 😅

I hope all her trips abroad were horrendously expensive as she travelled everywhere during peak school holiday weeks. 😌

My colleague (no kids) had decided this year that she must be missing out on s’thing by letting me have priority during school holidays, and this year she booked both half-term weeks for herself before I could. So I’ve just booked all my remaining days off weekly so only 3 or 4 day weeks from Nov 🥳

I’ve started watching Detectorists, this scenery would fit right in. Have you got some wellies and a metal detector with you?

😂 No but there will be a contact for the newspaper distributor/publisher 😏

010 1

Cate @chaoscate.eurosky.social · 18/10/2026

If you really don’t want to receive the papers, you have to send that to them in writing (as a ‘verweigerer’) and then I get the instruction for my route that I am not to deliver to house/apartment XYZ for this reason

100 1

Cate @chaoscate.eurosky.social · 18/10/2026

As a deliverer of said papers (temporary cover for my teen after his accident) I can tell you that the instruction from the publisher/distributor is we have to deliver even to letterboxes that have a ‘no advertising/no free papers’ sticker on them!

That’s not good considering we are all descendants of pirates and seafarers. And a lifetime of cross channel ferries

No idea if it will hold up after all these years but it was popular at the time! Not for me though. Enjoy ! 😉

God I remember Hellraiser films .. I was a teenager and all my friends watched horror films and I hated them 😱 I was alright with things like Poltergeist or The Shining, but it was the era of Freddy Kruger and Hellraiser and Hallowe’en.. spent most of it behind cushions 😩

Too good to go? I keep meaning to try that out and when I remember I’m either too late OR the drive is too far, making it useless as a cost saving exercise. (Although it would still solve a food waste issue) Martha has your back! 😏

Also EVs are improving all the time .. be silly to buy and in 4 years the tech is already ‘outdated’

Cate @chaoscate.eurosky.social · 17/10/2026

Same for all of them. Leasing no-brainer with the deal I got .. 4 years .. by that time Teen should be driving himself and I won’t need a boot the size of a house every time we go somewhere. small cars like the Zoe or e Corsa will do fine for me alone

I just filled up to 80€ to visualise the difference .. it got me 36.7L which is a quarter tank less, basically. Can’t wait for my new car 😄 Citroen ë-c3 aircross with extended range Which, I am aware, is obviously not a top-spec tech car but it’s v affordable and allowed a towbar for bike rack 😏

Ordered my EV in June .. Del date : Mid December 🙏🏻 hoping this doesn’t get moved to 2027. I’ve gone from 2 x 50L a month @ 80€ each to 2 x 50L a month @ 110-125€ each (diesel Jan 1.60€ to Sept 2.49€ /L) currently 2.20€/L due to temp gov intervention Lease & ins & charge cheaper than diesel/month!

Spoken like a man ready to draw his pension 😂

100 1

Cate @chaoscate.eurosky.social · 15/10/2026

Exactly. Same here. Our pension contributions now pay the current pensions. Be no pension left by the time our kids get there ..

100 1

Cate @chaoscate.eurosky.social · 15/10/2026

This generation of pensioners are the last to be able to live on a pension though . ‘We can’t afford this pension system anymore ‘ etc etc changes coming in, working age raised again etc

100 1

Cate @chaoscate.eurosky.social · 15/10/2026

Yes.. need 45 working years to get it in full. It’s income based here, not a fixed amount. And if you are a low wage earner, it gets topped up to a minimum basic amount. That’s only if you earn well below average though

Cate @chaoscate.eurosky.social · 15/10/2026

That’s the date on my annual pension statement . That’s the date, if I retire, I can draw the pension without any penalties (you can retire earlier but lose % of pension not sure exactly what % )
