Like, I know why he's there but my first thought was "Oh cool that's the Modern Knight guy from YouTube!"

Thank you so much! I, too, have lost a lot of my copies in the chaos of my flat! Even my favourite one with the Skydra cover!

Final episode of The Island With No Name went out this week in The Phoenix. It was this first big comic project I took on and I learned so much doing it! I've got a bit of work to do on a potential collected edition coming out next year!

I can find any number of AI agents to recommend a film. But the BBC could be getting Mark Kermode to curate a list of the best British horror films, and that would be infinitely preferable. Or Bob Mortimer’s favourite comedies. Or Nigella’s cooking shows, or whatever.

Aside from what people have already said, I think the tasks themselves aren't quite inviting the same level of chaos. I had to rewind a few because I didn't quite see where the "catch" was (like the boiler room). The hide and seek task could have been glorious, but only Chloe's had any fun to it.

All I could think of. But here in the UK the prices are practically monocle popping levels as well. I've completely given up on consoles or being able to upgrade my old PC, and I've been on a diet of indie games that don't need extra RAM or a new SSD.

Unfortunately, I think the response will be "lol get an agent to access services on your behalf". And by refusing to do so you'll just be frozen out of stuff. The amount of reluctant AI compliance I've seen where people feel like they don't have a choice, esp professionally. But we'll see.

I have this feeling that many people are going to live more and more offline lives if being online becomes too much of a hassle. Like, I get that the world over the last 30 years has been built around this but only because it worked so well. I dunno what would replace it...

My policy hot take: If you‘re involved with making comics, you should be given priority booking for Bayeux Tapestry tickets.

Social media accounts that auto-follow based on keywords are the worst. Last night I did an anxiety-led post talking about some albums I love to try and avoid spiralling into gloom over the whole A I music thing, and today I wake up to find several A I music accounts following me. Easy blocks.

I'm done dumping albums now. I could have gone on all night, but I havet to draw comics tomorrow.

The last boss: Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere. I don't usually like it this heavy, but there's something in here thats playful and epic. Going from brutal chaos to Pink Floyd dreaminess. If you can get through the first three minutes - strap in.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - No More Shall We Part Outside of cranky legend Nick Cave's usual emotive frankness - it's Warren Ellis' album (not the sex pest comic writer, the Australian violinist) for me. The mourning strings underpin everything but erupt beautifully on We Came Along This Road.

Opeth - Pale Communion I don't want to do two from the same band, but many consider this era to be a different band, derisively called Newpeth. Their loss. It's incredible. Big symphonic journeys through an mystical landscape with a suprisingly emotional core. Faith in Others is mesmerising.
Opeth - Pale Communion. A number of religious/occult looking paintings hang on a stone wall.

Blood Ceremony - Lord of Misrule Okay, let's do a fun one. I first heard bits of this album on a friend's playlist "Songs to Do Kung Fu in Your Dressing Gown To" but it's more like "Songs to Get a Satyr to Come and Jazz up Your Halloween Party with a Flute". Consult the alt text for more info.

Phoebe Bridgers - Stranger in the Alps Speaking of Phoebe. I get the feeling a lot of these songs aren't aimed at me, but damn. Definitely contains sad.
Phoebe Bridgers - Stranger in the Alps. That ghost is just a kid in a sheet. Standing in a field looking sad. You'll be sad too if you listen to this album. But it might help.

Manchester Orchestra - A Black Mile to the Surface Probably the most well known MO album (thanks Phoebe Bridgers - who did a beaut cover of The Gold). Both expansive and intimate, telling the story of a forgotten town and tragedy. Open to interpretation with a dark current but weirdly beautiful.
Manchester Orchestra - A Black Mile to the Surface. A shadowy figure hangs from a bare branch of a stripped tree pointing to the sky. A lot of trees in this collection.

Lunatic Soul - Through Shaded Woods If you ever played The Witcher 3 and thought "I wish there was a experimental progressive folk rock album from Poland that sounded like the music in this game" - do I have a treat for you. It's this.
Lunatic Soul - Through Shaded Woods - a surreal shape twists in the air in a dark forest.

Agalloch - The Mantle One for the patient who don't mind a LITTLE bit of growling (but over lovely guitar?). The main track is 15 minutes long and is about arguing against nihilism by taking in nature and possibly being a druid. I DON'T KNOW. But it's incredible.

Counting Crows - August and Everything After Come on! I can be basic but I was in LOVE with this album as a teenager. I still think it's deserving of the hype, even if it doesn't have the Shrek song on there. Contains megaton sad in the form of Perfect Blue Buildings.

I couldn't decide whether All Eternals Deck or Heretic Pride was the most autumnal Mountain Goats offer (they've a lot of albums). If you're not familiar with John Darnielle - it's punky folk music with heartbreak and humour swirled together. Both have sad but also humour and wit.
The cover to Mountain Goats All Eternals Deck - it's the band and album title in a culty art deco font on a black background.Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride written over a foreboding cloud.

Damnation by Opeth Opeth always dabbled in softer harmonies (even on their early albums that sound like a possessed buzzsaw). A lot of this album doesn't even have distorted guitairs. Instead it's a forlorn trek through beautiful and inventive progressive rock melodies. Also has sad.
Damnation by Opeth. A ghostly photograph of what looks like a dll in a bright room. It's quite eerie.

Fevers and Mirrors by Bright Eyes This is not Bright Eyes best album, but it's the most atmospheric. There's a lot of angsty lyrics (Conor Oberst was barely out of high school) but the album transports you to place full of haunted youth treading across creaking floorboads. Warning, has sad.

It's been a bleh day for my anxieties but its now October and officially the start of "sitting inside with a jumper and mug of hot something looking out at the rain" season. To counter the AI music discourse I'm gonna post some autumnal or spooky albums I like...

I can't be the only person who sees YouTube videos from the 2010s and gets slightly emotional because they're pre AI human craft? I'm here watching random anime openings to forgotten shows with names like"Help! I'm in Love with my Mecha Building Senpai". A single tear running down my cheek.

I can't believe a company named after Saruman's orb would do something like this. Disappointed tbh, they've lost a customer. I'll be taking my business elsewhere and encouraging all my friends in the despotic tyrant facebook group to do the same.

You'll probably be fine, I checked last year and I got the 18.54 train to London via Leeds. I had time for a pint with a friend before the train so 18.35 and no pint is definitely doable.

I'd book ahead either way, but I've never found them to be chaotically crowded (like before and after Christmas - yikes!). However you want to maybe book for 7ish. I've found its nice to not feel rushed and you can say goodbye to everyone and maybe grab a snack etc.

I dunno how to explain it, but this kinda reminds me of how video games used to be lit. Not just PBR and some key lights and call it a day, like actual places. Really wanna try Deadlock! I'm rubbish at the sort of game but the art direction is everything I love.

I'm on it! Currently working on a sci-fi comic series for kids and every ship is designed by me and mocked up with basic shapes in Blender for reference use (no auto tracing here... though it would save me time :D) Unfortunately, I have zero engineering knowledge so very little technical thought!

In the space of five years we've gone from computers that can be relied on to give the same response each time, to a scattershot guessing machine that might accidently give your address to a stranger. But it's okay, it can cobble together an apology!

A lot of old cartoons I watched as a kid had things in them I just assumed was cartoon specific stuff. Like those pump action railway platforms or cartoon animals going AROOOGA whenever they saw an attractive cat or dog. But apparently all that stuff was a common sight in Tex Avery's time.

I used to get these when I worked in business events and it was so nakedly transparent because they'd be offering us lists we the organisers didn't have yet. As with everything, AI has made this type of scam almost automated.

I think this is, at its core, is one of the big reasons AIs fabled economic benefits have not materialised. Even in a world where the output was good and ethical and yada yada, no one will buy it from you because they have access to the same systems you used to churn it out.

Resident Evil was a lot of fun! Great to watch with a big audience (one moment in the film even got a spontaneous round of applause!) The Evil Dead comparisons are appropriate - it's less schlocky and slapstick, but just as chaotic and entertaining.

I've avoided this so far by turning kids in to nemeses instead of fans. So every time I meet one I've met before I get a Shadow of Mordor style cut-scene where they shout: "Oi, there's that artist what did that bad drawing in my signature book!" It's been very helpful if a little terrifying.
