Just finished this book, and it's a very easy recommendation not just for BTAS fans, but also for anyone interested in animation in general. It's a great examination of the historical context of the U.S. animation industry that led to the creation of BTAS, X-Men, Gargoyles, etc.

Reviews aren't there for anyone to agree with! They're not "right" or "wrong", they're one person's thoughts on their experience - a "disagreement" or divergence means that single person thought differently to the reader, and that in itself can be interesting.

I think part of what inspires so much grief, so much mourning, in the loss of Tim Curry, is that this was someone who you could feel genuine around. He did not shy away from being offbeat. He very pointedly embraced himself for the (lovingly) delightful freak that he was, and laughed the whole way.

When G Gundam aired on Toonami in 2002, the Japanese consulate in Miami brought Yasuhiro Imagawa to FIU to discuss his work. I got a photo with him and he autographed a sealed Shining Gundam MSiA figure, which I still have. To this day, he's the only Gundam director I've met in person.

I think folks also underestimate just how culturally sheltered or silo'ed people were before the internet blew up. People who hated anime had of course barely seen any and were just going on sensationalized second-hand impressions. This fell away when more anime slowly got easier and easier to see.
