And they just work SO WELL! Heats fast, and has that same "turn down the temp and the cook surface instantly cools" effect like gas. It's not just safer. It's ALSO a superior cooking experience. That rarely happens! Win-win!

"Actually..." I also had a now-former Jewish friend tell me that the Jewish people have unique ownership over the word "genocide" and that to call what Israel is doing one is "blood libel"

stating that Israel is engaged in an ongoing genocide against Palestinian people is a basic fact. It's uncontroversial. It's true.

Ours provides massive rebates for heat pumps... but only if you're converting from an existing electric resistance or natural gas setup. If you're new install, you're out-of-luck. Which is dumb because it'd almost be "cheaper" to install, then retrofit, even on new construction.

If you're looking for speakers, I'd be thrilled to talk about what I learned building Kelp (kelpui.com), an HTML-first web component library, and forking it for a client project used across multiple sites and web apps.

I’m thinking of a situation where only the table exceeds the viewport width, but causes an overflow on the whole page. If on a section of the page other than the table, you can end up accidentally scrolling into an empty white void.

Chris Ferdinandi @cferdinandi.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I hear you. I also think it's fair to say that "native scrolling" (it's always native, you mean body vs. container) creates other issues when not all of the content on the page bleeds horizontally out the viewport. And the scrolling-element-inside-another effect is, to many folks, displeasing.

Chris Ferdinandi @cferdinandi.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
So in that demo, you can scroll horizontally with sticky row headers, but the column headers don't stick. The only way to fix that would be to add a `height` property to that containing element.

Chris Ferdinandi @cferdinandi.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Ok, got it! codepen.io/cferdinandi/... Your demos let the body have its natural overflow. A lot of sites prevent that so that users can't horizontally scroll in random places with blocks of text, but DO want scrolling for the table. Adding overflow around the table messes up `position: sticky`.

No, I'm very clearly missing something! I'm seeing in your first Pen that it behaves the way I want, but my own code doesn't. Thanks for that! This is a very useful starting point!

And the hack I was thinking of is where you replicate an entire table with <div> elements and ARIA roles.

Chris Ferdinandi @cferdinandi.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I likely did a bad job explaining it. In this pen, the "Scrolling in Two Directions" table only works if there's a `height` attribute set: codepen.io/aardrian/pen... Scrolling (and the sticking headers) happen on containing element, not the body.

I'm getting a LOT of pushback on having a vertical scrolling element inside the `body`, which also scrolls vertically, and I can't figure out how to fix it short of doing the "two tables stacked" or "use divs with `[role]`" hacks, which I really want to avoid!

@aardrian.bsky.social I keep coming back to your fixed table headers article. Is there any way to make a table with both sticky column and headers work WITHOUT having to set a fixed height/internal scrolling on the table's wrapping element? adrianroselli.com/2020/01/fixe...

No human is illegal
I just ordered a bunch of leftist patches to put on my backpack, because virtue signaling is good, actually. One patch I kept seeing over and over again is… No human is illegal on stolen land. I get it. It’s supposed to point out the hypocrisy of complaining about illegal immigration in a country that was founded by stealing it from and genociding the people who already lived here.

Radical books that aren't a slog
I’m loving the resurgence of zines! Violet B. Fox just released on on radical books that aren’t a slog, a collection of books for leftists that aren’t super dense theory by old dead white guys. There’s so many good ones to choose from, but I started with The Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler. For posterity, I’ve saved a local backup, but you should visit Violet’s site instead.

Nah, it actually sucks at the user level. I live with someone forced to use it, whose coworkers have become progressively less able at their jobs, less able to communicate effectively, less moral, less ethical, more paranoid, and it links directly to the C-suite’s (not-yet homicidal) AI psychosis.

Discrimination against us isn't just bad because the hypothetical issue is tiny. The entire basis people have for believing it is an issue is false. Plenty of people think the bans are too discriminatory but that they are based in "common sense", and that's wrong, and should be pushed back against.

Trans athletes should be accepted, and should be able to win and succeed just like any other athletes, and a trans athlete winning every so often is not evidence that there's an underlying truth in banning them.

The turn most software devs have taken shouldn't have surprised me. Well before LLMs, most devs I've met had the soul of a landlord Sometimes "landlord trying to be cool". Sometimes "landlord who wants suffering with the rent" But both see the world with the eyes of a rent-seeker

We had a Palestinian Christian pastor speak in chapel at my evangelical university back in like, 2006, and I remember there being many students who were outraged by his (very mild) criticism of Israel, not by the persecution he faced as a Christian.
