Not sure what's bothering me more, the gendering of gingerbread or the AI slop

There has to be a better way to request academic journal peer reviews that doesn't involve automated email requests and absolutely no human contact throughout. I say yes when I can, but when even the thank-yous are automated and my name is misspelled, I can't help but question the system a little!

Why are you not still living in the place where you went to primary school? Perhaps because you wanted to find opportunities that suited you and people who were interested in the things you are interested in, rather the strangers you happened to be plonked down next to early on?

regardless of today’s outcome, it is morally indefensible to have a court ruling on something that affects a population, using evidence and findings that did not consult a single member of that population.

Reading Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa's biography and the author's desperate attempts to prove heterosexuality get worse with every sentence 💀
Although Giuseppe had written 'Proustian' love letters and told his father he would rather die than live without her, his relationship with Licy does not appear to have been a passionate one. Since their first meeting in London, their rapport had been intellectual, founded on common interests and a shared sensitivity to literature. And that is how it probably remained, their best times together, Licy used to recall, being those evenings during which they read aloud to each other passages in various languages from their favourite authors.* Flames for a year, ashes for thirty', is Don Fabrizio's view of love in The Leopard. But with Giuseppe there may have been no flames at all. There has been some speculation about their sexual relations or lack of them but it remains nothing more than unconfirmed, and in some cases scurrilous, speculation. It has been said that Giuseppe was impotent, and one friend recalls rumours that this was the result of his war wound. (If true, this might explain his nervous breakdown after the First World War and the terminations of his two engagements afterwards.) Licy may also have had sexual inhibitions it is unusual to have one husband who was homosexual and another who may have been impotent but a journalist's claim that she had a long affair with her Baltic friend, Lila lljascenko, is not true.

How is your museum honoring #TDOR? This Trans Day of Remembrance I'm thinking of Jono Vaughan's work. This is 'Brandy Martell, 400 block of 13th Street near Franklin Street, Oakland, CA' from Project 42. Each work in her series is named for a murdered trans person and the place they were killed.

Museums are houses of things. But each object contains the memories and lifetimes of the people who made, used and cared for them—sometimes over generations—and there are moments when we see them resurface in ways we could never anticipate. 🧵
