The timeless beauty of ancient glass! This Roman glass scent bottle is around 2,000 years old, yet its elegant design feels surprisingly modern! British Museum 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows a small Roman scent bottle made of cobalt-blue mould-blown glass in the form of a scallop shell. At the top it has a cylindrical neck with an out-turned rim. There is a thin, curved, handle either side of the neck. The top of each handle is attached to the neck, and the bottom is attached to the top of the scallop shell. Bottle dimensions: height 8.5 cm, diameter 5.2 cm. Dated AD 25-100. It is displayed on a circular, clear perspex (?) stand in a British Museum display case. The bottle was bequeathed to the British Museum by Felix Slade in 1869.

While the welsh links to Yale are well known. Less well known is that the major force in founding brown is Pontypool boy Reverend Morgan Edwards. Penn has significant welsh links too based in and supported by those of the “welsh tract”. Decent haul for welsh migrants! HT - brilliant maps

Flint Castle, North Wales reconstruction. Classic design with Donjon on its own as last stand point if courtyard breached during siege. (Donjon should really be at the back rather than front of house which is a bit of a puzzle. Unless they were expecting naval assaults.

Love that people are also loving this restoration. Reminded me What was lost a stones throw away. Merchant exchange. Surely Cardiffs biggest Victorian loss ?

Worth it. Fair play. That age produced buildings very few modern ones can compete with. Can’t think of a modern Cardiff one that compares. Closest maybe royal welsh college of music and drama 🤔

For anyone interested I had to pop in and have a look at reception. Looks good on the inside too. Industrial modern ! Had a chat and an open day is planned if you are interested in such things. Keep an eye out. (Where I’m not sure but sure it will true nip on here)

Great piece of restoration this. One of the gems of Cardiff bay back looking glorious. The new bits hidden away look great too. Well done Cardiff college! (And Cardiff council I hear)

DoorDash spent $1.4M trying to stop Zohran Mamdani from becoming mayor. This week's historic $131.5M enforcement action against DoorDash for underpaying NYC delivery workers shows why. Yet another reminder that the only thing that can beat organized money is organized people.

The coastal path takes you about a mile along the then brings you out in the port to walk a mile back the way you just came. I get industrial areas. But that irked. Sure they could work out a safe route along the front and over lock gates ?

Was at an event yesterday and a business man went on a big speech about why business isn’t loved or embraced in the Uk. I didn’t agree with him, but think the inability by many to see rampant inequality is a na issue we need to get to grips with.
