#JobsDay 🧵: September's job numbers just dropped, and tells us a bad overall picture: our labor market is weaker than 4.2% unemployment suggests. Our labor market is facing some extreme challenges, such as the fact that men continue to fall behind women in employment growth, as seen on the graph.

Musk can flood elections with cash because #SCOTUS barred legislatures from limiting it in McCutcheon v. FEC (2014). To beat big money, Congress can pass a constitutional amendment, or states can call a convention to propose one, ratified by three-fourths of the states. tinyurl.com/3k94tjhh

The black unemployment rate remains an outlier in employment data. They’re underrepresented in blue collar jobs as white-black disparities exist regardless of education. For the most in depth analysis of black labor, read @a-austin.bsky.social : tinyurl.com/2mkwzcs5
Black men's prime‑age employment rates are far lower (≈68–80%) 2000–2025; White, Hispanic, and Asian rates cluster near 82–90%.

Paid vacation in the US is not equal. More than half of the lowest paid workers get no paid vacation at all. Only 15% of the highest paid workers go without any. Part time workers and small company workers have it even worse.
Paid vacation access: All 77%; FT 89% vs PT 38%. Lowest earners 43% vs middle/top ~85%. Small firms 71% vs large firms 83%.

The US is the only rich democratic country with no legal right to paid vacation. Every other wealthy nation requires it. The UK requires 28 days. Most of Europe requires 20 to 25 days. Canada and Japan require at least 10. The US requires zero.
OECD paid vacation—UK 28; many 20–25; Korea 15; Mexico/Israel 12; Japan/Canada 10; US required 0, average 10

🧵: Trump's remarks that recently resurfaced about the US having too many non-working holidays wasn't a #LaborDay message, but it still said a lot about his thoughts on labor. He wants workers to have even less time off, in a country that already guarantees them ZERO paid vacation days. #econsky
