We need to talk about "Nature Security". We're seeing a big push to securitise nature but it's being done in a way that risks ignoring the root causes of #biodiversity loss, and the solutions we need to fix it.
green and black text reads: Narrowly interpreting the relationships between nature and security in ways that prioritise the national security of a few risks alienating and excluding key stakeholders and will do little to address the underlying drivers of global biodiversity loss.

A welcome message from #PopeLeo on the often deep and lasting environmental degradation resulting from armed conflict, and on the role of environmental degradation in contributing to further violence: www.vatican.va/content/leo-...
War leaves wounds that extend far beyond the battlefield. It claims lives, tears families apart and forces millions to flee their homes, thereby deepening fear, injustice and division (cf. Gaudium et Spes, 77-82). War also leaves behind social and ecological destruction that endures for generations. Moreover, the interaction between armed conflicts and environmental degradation often creates a vicious cycle, which destroys ecosystems, contaminates essential resources, such as air and water, and undermines food security. This fuels poverty, inequality, and new social tensions that can contribute to the emergence of further conflicts.
