To continue celebrating disability pride, even after Disability Pride Month ended in July, we are talking about #DisabledJoy! Our action team will soon start a social media series featuring our team members and how they express #DisabledJoy. #InclusiveClimate #GrowingInCommunity #CitizensClimate
The title reads, "Celebrating Disabled Joy." The following text reads, "The term 'disabled joy' describes how joy experienced by disabled people inherently resists society's association of disability culture with grief and sorrow."The title reads, "hashtag disabled joy." The following text reads, "The coining of the term disabled joy is attributed to disability advocate Andrew Farkash. In March of 2018, Farkash posted on X (then Twitter): “There's a common misconception that you can't be Disabled and happy. That you can't express joy, and if you do, you must not be hurting or Disabled anymore. I propose a new hashtag to empower us and show people otherwise: #DisabledJoy.” In response to Farkash’s post, thousands of people with disabilities responded in solidarity, sharing images and statements sharing joy in their lives."The title reads, "The Importance of Disabled Joy." The following text reads, "Disability and accessibility strategist Andrea Jennings writes: “When disabled people experience joy, it's often misread as proof we don't need support. Joy doesn't erase disability—it shows that access is working... What we need across systems, workplaces, and personal relationships is a shift in how joy is interpreted. Stop reading disabled joy as a sign of dishonesty or reduced need. Start recognizing it as proof that access and care are doing what they are supposed to do. If you see the joy, you are seeing access in action—a shift in paradigm, not the disability disappearing.”The following sources were used: 1. Jennings, Andrea. “The Right to Joy: When Disabled Happiness Is Questioned.” Easterseals, 16 February 2026. 2. Russo, Gianluca. “People are sharing photos proving that you can be 'disabled and happy'—and the internet is loving it.” Business Insider, 17 October 2018.

Trump and Republicans are spending billions of tax dollars on ICE to terrorize our communities, golden ballrooms, and private jets. They’re paying for it by cutting support for Medicaid and SNAP and making health care unaffordable for millions of Americans.
A graphic with a headline and a photo of Kristi Noem. The text says, "Coast Guard Buys Two Private Jets for Noem, Costing $172 Million. Public documents show the Department of Homeland Security has contracted to purchase a pair of top-of-the-line Gulfstream jets for the secretary and other top officials." The caption says, "If there’s enough money for private jets and golden ballrooms, there’s enough money for Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid!"

Credit to the AP for this headline, which puts front and center the "unproven" and "without new evidence" absurdity of this farce. What a world when we decimate science and promote alternative facts. I feel for moms who will fear that treating pains of pregnancy means putting their children at risk.

Part One: Do you contribute to your CCL chapter's social media and want to learn more about accessibility? Flip through this carousel post to learn more about alt text! You may have noticed that several social media platforms recently integrated this feature into their software.
This graphic is titled, "All about Alt Text: Making Your Climate Advocacy Accessible." It states, "Have you noticed that Instagram’s July 2025 update includes alt text? Keep reading to learn more about how to best utilize this feature and ensure your climate advocacy is accessible to users with disabilities."This graphic is titled, "What is Alt Text?" It states, "Alternative (Alt) Text is a brief text description of images and graphics, and is an essential part of making content accessible. When adding images, icons or other graphic elements to digital content, be sure to add alt text so that your content will be accessible to all users. Alt Text is read by screen readers (or other assistive tech) to provide information about the image to the reader. Alt text should not just describe the image, but provide context on how the image relates to the page content.”This graphic is titled, "Best Practices." It states, "“Keep it short, usually 1-2 sentences. Don’t overthink it. Consider key elements of why you chose this image, instead of describing every little detail. No need to say “image of” or “picture of.” But, do say if it’s a logo, illustration, painting, or cartoon. Don’t duplicate text that’s adjacent in the document or website. End the alt text sentence with a period.”This page cites the second and third pages: Harvard University. “Write Good Alt Text to Describe Images.” Accessibility.huit.harvard.edu, 2023, accessibility.huit.harvard.edu/describe-content-images.
