Day 6: #CouchTo10IrishSpringBees Our first cuckoo bee. If you spot Andrena clarkella around, keep an eye out for this bee, Nomada leucophthalma, which sneakily lays its eggs in the Andrena clarkella nests. 1. No, this is not a wasp. 2. Yes, it is beautiful.

A female Nomada leucophthalma bee with ID characteristics:
Black scutum
Scutellum with red dots
Red, Black and Yellow abdominal bands

Mollusc graffiti, Coventry.

Photo of the bottom of a white garage door where algal growth has created a gradient of greenish colour that gets darker towards the ground. Slug or snail feeding has etched snaking patterns into the algal layer over time making another pleasing gradient as regrowth gradually fades the older patterns into the background and the whiter fresh ones stand out. If you zoom in you can see the individual marks of each scrape of the mollusc's tongue (radula).

There's a good one that starts in Bramhope where you follow the railway tunnel route for a bit, see the elaborate tunnel entrance stonework and get to listen to the sound of trains passing underneath you at the ventilation towers. That passes along a wilder edge of Golden Acre.

That's the one. Loads of red kites and deer. You can spot the Harewood Castle ruins and the Emmerdale set. Best avoiding weekends and bank holidays as it gets very busy at peak times and the car park's only small.

Cliffe Castle museum, Keighley. Lots of Victorian taxidermy in the natural history section. Sadly the upstairs is closed off for repairs at the moment so you can't see the two-faced lamb.

Museum cabinet showing taxidermy specimens of grouse. On the left, Black Grouse. On the right, Capercaillie. In the middle a hybrid of the two.

Museum exhibit - a box of wasp parts labeled "WASPS, THE VISCERA OF WHICH HAVE BEEN EATEN BY MICE" and "These wasps were nibbled by mice. They were donated to the museum in very early 20th century."

Entomological museum display cabinet containing a beautiful large wax model of a housefly and a biography of its maker, curator Maurice Longbottom (1897-1946)

Cars are getting 1cm wider every two years. That may not sound much, but over time it adds up, and they're showing no signs of slowing down 😬 That's #carspreading. Our new campaign is calling on city leaders to make parking policies fairer by varying costs based on the size of a car. Why? 🧵1/8

Nature valentines. Thanks to my Patrons for keeping me drawing www.patreon.com/birdandmoon

A group of six nature valentines. A picture of a bog with pitcher plants, with text saying "Our love is like a bog. Built up over time, resistant to decay, deeply interesting to just a small number of people." A yellow slime mold stretching out and exploring. "our love is like a slime mold. Collaborative, complex, at times unnerving to behold." A piece of limestone with a small trilobite in the corner. "Our love is like limestone. Layered, useful for many purposes, shaped by the friends we met along the way." A ring-billed gull with a french fry on a beach. "Our love is like a ring-billed gull. Abundant, found in North America, sometimes sustained by french fries." An Atlantic horseshoe crab walking on the sand. "Our love is like a horseshoe crab. Tough, timeless, unrelated to true crabs." A drawing of the phosphorus cycle, with arrows connecting various parts of a scene, including algae and fish and a farm and a river and a forest. "Our love is like the phosphorus cycle. Important, really hard to draw."

A spider is standing between a leaf and water. Three legs are on the leaf and five on the water, making little indentations. The spider is dark, with a white band going horizontally around it. There are some spots on its abdomen.
