The study was on the DoJ website; I can confirm this, because I looked it up twice after two different right-wing terror attacks in the US. The first time was after my church was shot up by someone who had been listening to right wing hate radio. Scrubbing it was purely to support Trump lies.

Huh. When I look here, it seems I am the only person in the world who's excited by an iPhone that 1) has TouchID (I was over FaceID the first time I had to turn the phone on while driving, and now I mask too) 2) folds up small enough to fit in a pocket (I think) and 3) folds out to a bigger screen.

Amazon's own balance sheet presents the most compelling evidence that we are stuck in the Enshittocene, the era in which everything is turning into a pile of shit, because the worst ideas of the worst people now make the most money. 1/

Hieronymus Bosch's 'The Conjuror,' a painting depicting a medieval con artist playing a shell game for an audience of astonished peasant rubes. The image has been altered: the conman now has Jeff Bezos's grinning head, and the mouths of all the peasants have been replaced with inverted Amazon 'Smile' logos, so they are now frowning.

Going to the Knoxville Botanical Gardens to hear the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra (it’s free this evening! Starts at 7 pm!) And I practiced my violin (for a paltry ten minutes but it’s the time I’ve got) and it occurred to me how much I love this particular instrument. I am so lucky to have her.

I have been trying to cut back on added sugars in my diet, and eat more fruits and veggies and whole grains for vitamins and fiber and such. Because I’m starting to get arthritis, and I wondered if the sugar contributed to the inflammation. As a side effect I have fewer treats lying around.

For those who are wondering about the backup battery, I charged it to full the next day. I tried just laying the solar cells flat on the grass to see how much energy I lost by not having the perfect angle. 15% or so? (close to noon) BUT … the grass under them died. The heat maybe? So, bad plan.

Cat Sittingstill @catsittingstill.bsky.social · 31/07/2026

So the thing about the backup battery is that every 3 months I have to discharge it completely, recharge it to full, and run it down to 60% again for long term storage. Yesterday I discharged it, today I pulled out the solar cells to see how they would do. It has been charging about 8 hours.

I have been doing MUCH BETTER about practicing violin and I am unreasonably proud of myself. I have been doing my vibrato exercises faithfully, and I can tell it is getting easier to do them smoothly and at the assigned speeds. I don’t think a stranger would notice the improvement, but I do.

Decided to set myself one modest project per week. This week’s project—make a “music board”—a Manhasset-like top of wood scraps I already possess to turn my tablet holder (much stabler than my folding music stand) into something that can hold paper sheet music with a modicum of dignity.

Wore my rainbow shirt and my American Flag hat today (knitted the hat myself and it looks damn sharp.) Yesterday Kip and I bought nostalgia fireworks: black snakes and sparklers and fireflowers for me, because I grew up in Oregon and we weren’t allowed much more than that, and a “tank” for Kip.

I made a thing. It’s a sun hat, knit in red, white, and blue cotton yarn with a thin rainbow thread carried along, so that it appears over and hides behind the main color at random, inextricably knit into the fabric of the hat, impossible to remove without tearing the whole thing apart.

I made a Berry Baby Hat from the pattern of the same name on Ravelry. It was a quick knit, and I learned how to make i-cord! I have a lot of yarn left over; baby hats are smol. It is blocking now and should be ready for the baby shower tomorrow.

If I’m New Hampshire Public Radio, I’m putting this entire article on a tote bag.

In spring 2022, NHPR journalist Lauren Chooljian published a story detailing allegations of sexual assault and
harassment by Spofford. Over the next few months Chooljian's home in Melrose, Massachusetts, her former home in New Hampshire, and the homes of her parents and editor, Dan Barrick, were all vandalized.
Prosecutors say Spofford paid his close friend, Eric Labarge, $20,000 in two installments to vandalize the homes in
2022. Spofford allegedly provided the addresses and specific instructions on what to do. Labarge then found three others to carry out the attacks.

Went to the 50501 protest in Morristown yesterday. I would guess about 60 or 70 people showed up, which I think is a pretty good turnout, and passer-by response struck me as 2/3 to 3/4 positive--both very good for this area.

It isn't okay to send undocumented people to a gulag without a trial. It is also not okay to send citizens to a gulag without a trial. Trump is doing the first and wants to do the second. Never again is now.

Great violin lesson today--I didn't have a lot of time to practice this week so I thought I would concentrate on something I could do in short bursts, so I memorized the Etude I had been working on. My teacher was very pleased; it was much easier to pay attention to his suggestions about bowing.

They will be useful for funerals and an amateur orchestra I'm in, and also I wore them today because perfect time to try them out. The cardigan is very soft.
