Squirrel crimes. Photo from my collection, no date/info
Color photo that has taken on a pink discoloration with age. It shows a chubby, short haired brown tabby cat, standing with its back legs on the arm of a chair, and its front legs on a windowsill so that it can look outside and see whatever is happening outside the window.

Le Chomp. Photo from my collection, no date/info.
Photo of a handsome young man wearing a striped t-shirt and light trousers, standing in front of an old car - maybe 1940s but I really don't know cars. The man is looking down at a shorthaired tabby kitten that he holds gently in his hands, that seems to be licking his finger.

okay I am ten minutes in to episode one and this is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen in my LIFE “We have doors slamming, taps turning on, a fishbowl in the kitchen spontaneously smashed,” home inspector walks in: “okay so first off, I see they have a cat”

Holy shit, this guy is so cool. He won the only major city mayoral race in France that *didn’t* need a second round of voting (meaning he had 50%+ of support in their version of a primary). A major part of his platform was disarming the police.

This is kvass - a fermented drink of Slavic origin. This 15th recipe from the Domostroi, calls only for water, honey and bread. Let it ferment, strain, and bottle. It tasted like you’re drinking a loaf of fizzy rye bread and it’s delicious. youtu.be/oNmxLEHwaqY?...

Photo of a shorthaired grey cat sitting up on an overturned white parasol on top of a light colored rock. A white sheet is draped behind it. It seems clear that this was all arranged deliberately to gather light for this very successful photo shoot of the cat.

i’ve noticed recently that when i’m having an in-person conversation, i feel this internal pressure to make my point faster/a perception that the other person is growing impatient. and i realized it’s because we’re so used to getting info in quick clips now that a longer explanation feels foreign.

I love fall so much. I've lived in Vermont my whole life and foliage season still seems like such a completely bonkers and beautiful thing to happen every year. It never gets old. 🍂
Photo of a pile of leaves on vibrant dark green moss. I collected lots of fallen leaves of different colors from different plants and trees and arranged them in an egg-shaped gradient going from green at the top to yellow and then orange and then red to darkest reds at the bottom.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.
From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

The title of the article, which I link below, is "How Bear 89 earned the name Backpack"

The Pope reminds me of a version of Catholicism I knew growing up as a young man attending anti-war and anti-death penalty protests, where I met elderly Catholics who shared their version of faith with me. I learned that Catholicism was about love and mercy for the weak, the condemned, and the poor.
