Delighted to see this collaborative work out on the orientation of NHCs on surfaces. More complicated than thiols, but you CAN control upright vs. flat lying by control over sterics at the N substituents (bulkier=upright) and backbone, if you destabilize flat-lying. pubs.rsc.org/en/content/a...

I don't see this said enough: the widespread use of generative AI is not only making our jobs as educators harder logistically, but also emotionally. It is genuinely sad to be suspicious of students when you have spent so much time building a pedagogy based on trust and not being a cop. It sucks.

One crucial aspect of using these AI tools is that you are sharing information with them. If this information is confidential/privileged, this is seriously problematic. The continued push for AI in every aspect of work ignores the true problem, which is pervasive overwork.

airing the BAFTA award ceremony on a tape delay, leaving in a slur, but editing out "free Palestine"?? that too is a choice, and an egregious one at that! archive.ph/YMhlK
screenshot from the linked Vanity Fair article reading as follows:

Though the BAFTAs aired on a tape delay, the slur was nevertheless included in the 7 p.m. broadcast—though the BBC did not air outstanding-British-debut winner Akinola Davies Jr. saying “free Palestine” at the end of his speech, according to Deadline. (The BBC told Deadline that “all edits were made to ensure the program was delivered to time.”) Sinners production designer Hannah Beachler wrote on X that while the Davidson situation “is almost impossible…it happened 3 times that night, and one of the three times was directed at myself on the way to dinner after the show.”

Here's my idea. ZERO personal gun ownership. You want to go to a firing range, use a gun there. You want to go hunting, sign out a gun. People will mental health issues should not have access to weapons while in crisis. No one except police and military need guns, and they don't need them at home.
