Saying this again: there is a scammer out there targeting newbie authors, claiming I'm one of their clients. They use different names, and I'm already pursuing legal action. But I have never worked with a PR company, editing service, or book packager, so anybody saying so is lying, period full stop.

Relationships between parents and teenagers are rarely as simple as trust equals they tell me everything. Peer pressure or adult predators can lead kids into dangerous situations that they lack the skills to see as dangerous or get out of without harm. /1

2 thoughts: 1. Most parents copy the parenting behaviors that they saw their parents do (unless they were actually abused or traumatized, then maybe/maybe not). 2. I don't think they choose to be anything. They're dealing w/all the adult shit & kids are exhausting.

It's not that your kid cannot be trusted to tell you. It's that a teenager can be led astray by other teens or by adult predators. I'm not sure most parents can prepare their teens well enough for that. Still agree on need for privacy, though.

I think that should be the goal -- but peer pressure gets worse as kids approach the end of school (not so much in college IIRC from my college years). That peer pressure can lead to more dangerous situations for 15-18 y/o than for 8-14.
