We’re not here for a long time, we’re here for a good time. Democracy is not something we have, it’s something we do. Slava Ukraini! I will not give into the lies. I will not give into the fear. Understands nuance.

Republicans now having to spend many millions in multiple states where they should not have to spend anything because Trump endorsed the worst possible general election candidate in those primaries so now they are being bailed out by billionaires buying elections with dark money.

Is it safe for me to say on here that I do not believe the polls about the Midterms? I don't trust white voters to be honest about their voting intentions with pollsters.

Trump suggested tonight that Iran could "take out" American cities: "It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe. They can take out a city. Let them take— let it, let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay."

NEW: Remember when John Oliver opened a church to expose how easy it was to get tax exemptions? This year, ProPublica reporters set out to establish private schools to test if, truly, anyone could open one. We founded two. Here’s how.

How ProPublica Reporters Became Private School Owners in 24 Hours
The reporting experiment demonstrates how easy it can be to open private schools that might then access public money. No credentials or background checks required.

Ex named her car (bought before "us"). Moved to NYC, I got rid of mine. She wouldn't. It was part of her "family". It had its own apartment @~$700/month & was driven 6x/yr. She will die in that ~20 year old Highlander (named "Connery"). I was expendable.

Hot take: I don't think social media made people dumber. We've been dumb this whole time. It's just that you used to have to have a job that people sent their dumb letters to, to notice. This made "Engaging with fools" an occupational hazard rather than the 24/7 experience it is presently.

Investigation and impeachment - even absent conviction - preserves the record. Doing nothing guarantees it happens again.

This is really important - Jill Lapore did an essay on impeachments and compared examples with the J6 report that was so bad it never got the airtime it needed - just boring and laden with repetition.

This is important. An impeachment is about preserving the record. Will the Senate convict? Likely no, but the stage will be set for future administrations.

I, for one, am glad all the golfers, tennis players, hunters, all the farmers who want more time to "play", and the guys who climb steeples (to "set the clocks back twice a year") can now weigh in on such matters directly. That will move the needle.

I really like the golfing factor being foundational for him since everyone will relate to it. That and how dangerous it is to climb steeples. Very rational and sane.

And so it continues... Our economic debates seem utterly disconnected from the reality. That reality: This is an economy mostly creating healthcare jobs, and it does so month after month, and everything else is just noise.
Line chart titled "Effectively all of the net job creation has been in healthcare and social assistance, and jobs are shrinking in the rest of the economy" showing change in non-farm payrolls since January 2025 through September 2026. Healthcare and social assistance added 998,000 jobs with consistent growth throughout the period, while the rest of the economy lost 222,000 jobs, meaning all net job creation came from healthcare. The rest of the economy showed particular weakness from May through August 2025 when losses reached 218,000 jobs. This striking divergence reveals an unusual concentration where one sector's growth of roughly 48,000 jobs per month has offset persistent contraction across all other industries combined.

An issue I see with anthropomorphizing is it is asymmetrical - seeing a "machine" as human that does not see a human as a machine - let alone understand what "human" is. To your point, this is about our self awareness. It does seem that the "machine" understands what it is.
