the way people just blindly trust the Plagiarism Machines with everything they work on is so confusing to me, given the number of conversations I had with researchers who refused to consider open access because it was going to get them scooped

Sorry chatbot lovers but the waning of Boolean operators in most search functions on websites has made my life actively worse. You can't find anything, you can only have things suggested to you.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
An aircraft passenger oxygen mask: a drop down passenger mask with air bag and yellow plastic mouth and nose cover, oxygen tube has been cut; Demonstration model used by flight attendant crew for passenger instruction. Has text on the side indicating that it's non-functional.

I love getting to work with PhD students throughout their academic careers. It's so cool to see how their research skills grow over time and watch them develop their own scholar identities, from my view in the library-bleacher seats.

NIH grants have been under political scrutiny since early 2025. But what does the screening process actually look like? What is being flagged? I spent a month digging into leaked docs and emails. We've published the 235-word list that are being flagged by an internal AI tool. And so much more. 🧵

Inside the new political screening that’s stalling NIH grants
Mandatory reviews by top health officials and checks for 235 disfavoured terms have left hundreds of vetted grant applications in administrative limbo.

The #LESSS2026 symposium is SO GOOD. Probably the best run virtual conference I've ever attended. Shoutout to the @lesssymposium.bsky.social organizers, moderators, presenters, etc. All the content is great, it's impeccably run, and engagement in the chat/materials is so high.

we heard you hate AI, so at LFP we've been making resources for turning off AI features across the web. but we also don't think AI problems can be solved at an individual level, so we included some of our fav tools for community resistance as well. more to download free at libraryfreedom.org

Going to spend some time thinking about this in the librarianship context, where (in my experience) acknowledgement vs coauthorship with faculty outside the discipline has been more reflective of their disciplinary norms than actual contributions made

I was so offended by this video the NC State Health Plan sent us that I called Treasurer Briner. Duke Health: nonprofit health system whose workers provide lifesaving care. Aetna: corporate overhead that unfairly denies claims to enrich its investors. Obviously siding w/Duke youtu.be/gPXC62rN9U4?...
