I have now be waiting for nearly an hour. Sure I can claim my fare back but that’s a faff, I would much rather my employer claim back the hour of lost productivity- then I am sure all the delays would magically decrease in frequency…

I am starting to wonder if they are doing it on purpose now as a way of weaponising incompetence to the point no one expects an adequate service.

It’s really on me that I’ve been stuck at the station for half an hour because I didn’t anticipate @elizabethline would be so stupid as to announce platform alterations to around 200 people as the train was pulling in to the other platform TWICE after already disappearing several early services…

I think a really important thing to emphasize about Dolly’s generosity is that she was still rich. I’m not saying that as a criticism. I’m saying she’s proof that she gave so much money towards so much, and it didn’t impact her ability to live a glamorous, glitzy life most people only dream of.

Dollyland employees, both part time and full time, receive 100% of tuition covered. Healthcare, medical, vision, retirement benefits, childcare. A saint that walked among us. Every other wealthy person should be ashamed of themselves if they don't live up to Dolly standards.

Dolly Parton on funding education and childhood literacy programs: My daddy was the smartest man I have ever known, but I knew his inability to read probably kept him from seeing all of his dreams come true. Inspiring kids to love to read became my mission.

Sometimes, when someone dies, what helps me is thinking about how wonderful it is that they were even alive in the first place. Dolly was the closest you could get to an American saint. We all loved her.

Dolly Parton spent 80 years proving you could have big hair, a bigger heart, a brilliant mind and absolutely no patience for anyone who underestimated you. She gave us unforgettable songs, free books for millions of children, and enough wit, rhinestones and kindness to light up Tennessee.

I think the universal grieving comes in no small part from the fact she represented the best of what America could be, and that she never stopped chasing that ideal, artistically and socially

I know I rarely take anything seriously on here but she was genuinely the only celebrity I have cried over. I love her and have always tried to live up to her example.
An in memoriam picture of Dolly Parton with the words ‘I will always love you’ written on it with Dolly’s signature

New from me: Until recently, the gap between comfortably-off and just-getting-started could plausibly be crossed in a decade or two of hard work. Growth in asset prices means that’s no longer true: even a lifetime of striving doesn’t offer a realistic prospect of feeling you’ve “made it”.

Years later the couple ran into Will in parliament as he had just become the Conservative Director of Communications

I've reported on Musk for around 8 years. I've co-authored a book on him. I don't think folks understand the rate of his wealth accumulation. Shortly after he helped elect Donald Trump in Nov 2024, his net worth was around $350 billion. That net worth has nearly tripled in less than two years.

This is Baby. She is celebrating her first ever International Corgi Day today. Personally thinks she should be celebrated every day, but this is a good start. 14/10 (IG: cooperandbaby_corgi)
a tiny corgi puppy sits atop a wood table and tilts her head dramatically at the camera. she resembles a fluffy toasted marshmallow. her ears are a little rounded at the points, and her markings make it look like she’s wearing two perfectly matched white ankle socks. she’s surrounded by lush greenery in the background.
