HCMC is an indispensable Level 1 trauma center for all patients — including my daughter who arrived there gravely injured in pedestrian-SUV crash. It's responsible for training generations of doctors. SICU nurses and TBI staff are exceptional. Count yourself lucky if you have no reason to know that.

Healthcare professionals at HCMC literally saved my life and provided the best treatment from primary care to specialty to surgery.

June 2020, my dad was found by the side of a west metro bike trail. He has no memory of getting on his bike, what route he took, or how he crashed. Someone found him, called an ambulance, and he was taken to HCMC. Because that's where you go when that kind of thing happens to you. ❤️

(9/9) The Legislature needs to act this session. Call your state rep today. Tell them to invest in our basic needs. Tell them to invest in a stronger, sustainable HCMC. Full story by our Policy Researcher Alec Williams at the Minnesota Reformer: minnesotareformer.com/2026/03/24/h...
Blue graphic with pull quote: "Ultimately, instead of a health care system built to provide the best possible care for the wealthiest few, we need one that provides care for everyone, allowing us all to live with dignity and achieve our full potential." (8/9)...in Hennepin County foot the bill for a hospital that serves the whole state. But the alternative is letting this essential hospital collapse entirely. That's worse.

(7/9) The leading proposal at the Legislature is expanding the Hennepin County sales tax — the same tax that paid for Target Field — from 0.15% to 1%. That money would go to keeping HCMC's doors open. Is it a perfect solution? No. A local sales tax means working families...

(6/9) Mayo has $16 billion in assets and calls itself a nonprofit. HCMC lost $9.5 million taking care of the rest of us.
Bold blue graphic with large text: "Private profits for Mayo. Socialized losses for HCMC." Subtext notes Mayo spent 0.7% on charity care vs. a 4% national average, and that Mayo's 2025 surplus was nearly as large as HCMC's entire annual revenue.

(5/9) Meanwhile, the Mayo Clinic made $1.5 billion in profit in 2025. Closed six rural clinics the same year. Spent 0.7% of its revenue on charity care — less than a fifth of the national average.

(4/9) Just like public schools, roads, or running water, public hospitals aren’t about charity, they are for self-preservation and mutual benefit.
Dark textured graphic with pull quote from Alec Williams, WMM Policy Researcher, Minnesota Reformer, March 24, 2026: "Nothing is more regressive than leaving the primary health care provider for poor families to close."

(3/9) HCMC provided more than $100 million in free care last year alone — double what it was in 2020. If that stops, those patients and that cost will flood hospitals from Wisconsin to North Dakota.
Dark graphic headlined "The state's largest safety net hospital is on the verge of collapse." Stats: 115,000 unique patients each year; $100 million in uncompensated care. We Make Minnesota logo.

(2/9)...offering the only 24/7 emergency hyperbaric chamber in Minnesota, one of the busiest burn units in the country, and our most important teaching hospital. When public needs go unmet, they don’t go away, they just cause bigger problems for all of us.
Dark graphic with large text: "The hospital that doesn't turn people away." Stats below: 48% of patients were on Medicaid in 2023; 20% of all uncompensated care in MN. We Make Minnesota logo.

🧵 The state's safety net hospital is on the edge. And the reason why should make you think. HCMC is broke because it takes care of people nobody else will, picking up the pieces for a broken system. HCMC cares for 115,000 patients a year...(1/9) #mnleg

(2/2) HCMC workers catch people who fall through the cracks of a broken system. They stand between us and chaos, caring for everyone, no matter their race, age, or income. Because that’s what healthcare should be. Tell your legislators: Fund the care we need. Save our public hospitals. Save HCMC.

When the worst accidents happen, the Minnesota Nurses Association and @afscme.bsky.social workers of HCMC are there for us. When for-profit hospitals and private insurance companies turn people away, MNA and AFSCME workers of HCMC are there for us. Now we need to be there for them. (1/2)

If Minnesota lets HCMC close it will be a disaster. Private healthcare is failing, we should be reinvesting in public hospitals, not starving them of resources.

This man received treatment at the #HCMC Burn Center, the only one of its kind in the upper midwest. I am concerned that there isn't more urgency in addressing the budget needs to keep this vital hospital open.

Dispatches from Minnesota: Hennepin County Medical Center, is an incredibly important hospital in the Twin Cities & for the entire Upper Midwest. They specialize in trauma medicine, and don't turn anybody away if they don't have insurance or can't pay. Its future is at risk because of Trump.
