Think about how long it has been since you first saw headlines about Harvey Weinstein’s violence. Nine years after #MeToo went viral, his case(s) are still working their way through the criminal justice system. This is (one of a long list of reasons) why survivors don’t report.

I'm sorry, but why is it so hard for the same to happen for racialised peoples?

ME/CFS advocacy is so painfully western-centric. "People with ME/CFS are dying" and I never see you speaking about non-western citizens. "People with ME/CFS need ____" and it's just structural change in the west apparently.

Will the day ever come that psychiatry is actually held accountable for its atrocious responses to survivors of child sexual abuse? For the fact that it has been labelling survivors of CSA with personality disorders that make the world see them as abusers and monsters rather than as victims?

CW eating disorders, abuse. Re: Ariana Grande, it's interesting how people keep naming how many people who have worked within these same industries (which we know are structurally abusive) have had eating 'disorders' and yet somehow the focus has remained entirely on Grande's mental health 1/2

CW abuse, suicide. Abuse is one of the most significant causes of death for people with ME/CFS and yet it doesn't factor into any major lists on death and ME/CFS. Suicide, however is considered one of the leading causes of death for people with ME/CFS.

So many white people's version of 'Mad Liberation' is to abolish psychiatry but preserve racial capitalism and white supremacy.

I honestly don't know if I have it in me to keep living under white supremacy anymore. White people dominate absolutely everything, including the movements to dismantle white supremacy.

CW abuse, rape mention. Sinners. I can't get over how no one ever talks about Michael B Jordan defending Jonathan Majors after he was convicted of domestic violence. Also the latest in the Knives Out trilogy because of rape apologist, Mila Kunis.

Abusers really will push you past the point of stability and then turn around and use that instability as proof that you're the real abuser or that you can't be trusted.

CW psych incarceration. The irony of people fighting to stop ICE from locking kids up, but being completely fine with kids being locked away on psych wards and in institutions. Ableism really is the point at which most people will excuse and justify violence that they wouldn't otherwise.

Or to put it really simply: For true accountability, an oppressor must lose power. But their victims must also see every harm repaired.

COVID denialism has been inducing altered and extreme states for many of us. It makes sense that the chronic stress, exhaustion, isolation and gaslighting have been causing many of us to experiences reality in unusual ways.

One domestic abuse strategy that ICE, that Trump, that US imperialism rely heavily on is projecting omnipotence. They deliberately craft an image that magnifies the degree of power they have in order to engender compliance and to make it seem like resistance is hopeless.

CW sexual violence. It's so disturbing that we're all witnessing mass sexual violence taking place on a major platform before our eyes and no one in power is even responding to it. Making us feel powerless, though, is one of the points of it.

Just a reminder: you are NOT unusual, weird, or unlovable if you have: - no one to see on Christmas Day, - no presents, or - no contactable relatives. Very few people live the idealised version on TV. Those of us who live differently—whether by choice or trauma—matter as much.

This thread. I think it's incredibly important to remember that the TERF fragility/rabidity started to take off right around the height of me too, and the main message they had was "men are inherently violent." They targeted trans WOMEN, while at the same time excusing actual violence from cis men.

Survivor Justice must be a collective pursuit. The 'justice' that survivors are promised through the legal system is rarely delivered and, if it is, it requires survivors to be retraumatised first. There's no justice in this.

Depathologising my madness and learning to accept it as a part of me has made my life so much more full and whole and rich ever since. I still have to find ways to adjust so that I can adapt to life under capitalism, but that doesn't make my madness inherently wrong.

There's no way that you can claim to care about survivors and not take COVID seriously. Just none at all. COVID is one of the biggest threats to survivors now, its effects more rapid than the climate crisis and almost any other mass disabling and destabilising event that we're facing now.

CW abuse. So much of why we don't believe survivors and why we support their abusers instead is because of psychiatry. Psychiatry encourages us to vilify, victim-blame and abandon survivors and sympathise with their abusers. I believe in psych abolition in no small part because of survivors.

CW abuse. Therapy isn't the solution for abuse. Therapy doesn't make people non-abusive. Many times, abusers go to therapy and just gain the tools manipulate and control their victims better.

CW abuse. Abuse literacy literally saved my life. It helped me stop believing my abusers' promises that they'd changed + to recognise how I'd been viewing harassment as flattering because I thought it meant they missed me. Abusers really rely on our being uneducated about the dynamics of abuse

Children are not property. Parents do not get to do whatever they want to them and claim it's fine because it's their child and that no one has any right to butt into their private family affairs when what they are doing places their child in danger. Children deserve better.

Interested in the changing political valence of "trauma" which in the Me Too era was used as a means of (perhaps remedially) trying to create empathy for the suffering of rape victims. Now, I see it used much more often as an attack on epistemic authority.
