Crossing the Angus has a fun ring to it!

I find this odd as the wall was installed by the former owner of our house! So you'd think it would be our responsibility... and our neighbours said the same re: their property. Lots of confusion here but apparently yes, this is all legit.

Followup: @rich.lafferty.ca spoke to 311. Yes, this is something the city does! They will get back to us to confirm the work order for OUR house, but yes, the vast majority of houses with retaining walls RIGHT up against the sidewalk, that's on city property. So they will do maintenance.

Candice @candice.eastcoastcandice.com · 23/09/2026
Yes that makes sense to me! What I'll have to double check is the exact property line. It is possible that while the wall was installed by the former owner of my house, it's technically on city property since it butts directly up to the sidewalk.

@rich.lafferty.ca is on hold with 311 right now! We'll report back with the story here so others are aware, regardless of the answer.

I'm trying to find some sort of proof in the city bylaws and so far not seeing anything. In fact the whole thing that was posted a few days ago about we property owners having to maintain the grass at the sidewalk along our properties seems to say otherwise?

Candice @candice.eastcoastcandice.com · 23/09/2026
Hey Halifax friends - there's a guy who just showed up to repair the retaining wall outside my house, the one that butts right up to the sidewalk. He claims the city sent him (their responsibility due to sidewalk) and that property owners are rarely told in advance. Have you heard of this?

That’s terrible too - we have so few walk in clinics as it is. Yeah I’m hoping my family MD stays in Dartmouth somewhere

two quick notes: 1) I plan to keep doing it until it gets too cold or snowy/icy - so at least through October, likely later 2) We do still use our car to go over to Warehouse Market for veg, but I have walked to the Alderney Farmer's Market this summer too. It's also bikeable!

No photo, but today marks an entire summer of biking to get groceries! I had a goal back in June to use my bike to go to either Superstore or Sobeys to get things every week, rather than using the car. Happy to say I was able to do it. #bikehfx

I can hear the Natal Day parade from my house, so hilarious. I hear lots of honking, the sounds of a marching band, and music, plus mixed into it the sounds of ship horns due to the fog, and occasionally, a blue jay screaming at me.

Ok I'm gonna ask: am I seriously the only person who finds the scanners on busses difficult to use? I fully understand how they are supposed to work, but I wave my phone in front and it takes a lot of tries for it to finally scan my ticket as valid. Sometimes drivers try to help, but ugh. #Halifax

Advice I got from the booking person is to try calling 1-2 months before you are due to see if there are cancellations, people usually call several weeks before their appt to change it. So for me that is try calling in early September to see if I can get something for THIS fall. (2/2)

Mammogram in Nova Scotia FYI: I know most people who regularly book know this is the situation right now but: I just called, Dartmouth is booking Jan 2028, so is Cobequid. Halifax is booking for Nov 2027 so I booked there even though they (radiologists) prefer I stick to Dartmouth (1/2)

Canada's 4 best players were supposed to be Davies, David, Kone & Bombito. Three of them were injured to varying degrees throughout this tournament, and the 4th was just wildly disappointing. And yet they still comfortably made the Round of 16 and put Morocco in hell. Huge accomplishment.
